With supreme wisdom, contemplate, and offer with a vast ocean of real and imagined offering clouds. With myself and all sentient beings, palms joined, I think of taking refuge in the Three Jewels with one mind. I take refuge in the supreme Lama, Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, reciting three times. The benefit of this is that temporary wishes are fulfilled, one enters the inner path, and all dharmas become a basis. One is not harmed by injuries, and is born before the feet of the Buddha. Ultimately, one accomplishes the meaning of the Three Jewels. Therefore, first take refuge. Then, the generation of the supreme Bodhicitta is the desire to attain Buddhahood for the sake of others, having the two natures of aspirational and engaging Bodhicitta. By generating Bodhicitta, mental factors naturally arise. The mind is the essence of meaning, able to know by its own power. Mental factors are the distinctions of meaning, able to know by their own power. During samsara, the mind and mental factors, through actions and agents, move in various ways, therefore, Yeshe (primordial awareness) is not manifest, thus generate Bodhicitta, so that Yeshe is bright and has power over meaning. When the mind ceases continuously, from the ritual of generating it, even if the Bodhicitta that is nearly attained is lost, by dividing it into the powerful Yeshe, it increases in the Buddha ground, and accomplishes benefits with great compassion, it is called the Bodhicitta that has removed obstacles. In the accumulation and application paths, the nature of that realm, by measuring the general meaning in the way of faith, therefore, Bodhicitta is also said to arise from faith. From the first ground to the seventh ground, the obscurations of the realm are gradually purified, therefore, Yeshe is vast and pure. In the pure ground, the five gates are all Alaya consciousness, pure aspirations and qualities are vast, therefore, it is called the Vipaka Bodhicitta. The realm is free from defilements, the ground of the Buddha, is called the Bodhicitta that has removed obstacles. There are two ways of how to generate it, receiving it in the presence of the supreme Lama and the Three Jewels. When receiving it from the Lama, the Lama explains the Dharma, including the preliminary seven branches and refuge. The main part is the Buddhas and their sons, and the supreme Lama, after requesting their attention, just as the Buddhas and their sons of the past, abide in generating Bodhicitta and practicing, likewise, for the benefit of beings, I abide in generating Bodhicitta and practicing. Recite this three times.
