The Twelfth Chapter: Showing the Categories of Teachings to be Explained Extensively. The Twelfth Chapter: Showing the Categories of Teachings to be Explained Extensively. Then, join the palms together. Listen with an undistracted and respectful attitude. Also, visualize yourself as Manjushri, with the light of Dharma shining into your heart. Listen with a pure and respectful mind, possessing the eighty-four aspects of listening. Offering flowers, cushions, etc., is generosity. Well-guarding the three doors is the perfection of discipline. Enduring harm is patience, joy is diligence, and undistracted listening is mindfulness, which is meditation itself. Cutting off doubt and suspicion is supreme wisdom. Afterwards, contemplate the kindness of the Dharma and the teacher. Dedicate the merit to enlightenment within the state of illusion. Its benefits are immeasurable. Even sentient beings who hear the sound of the Dharma drum are liberated from the lower realms, what need is there to mention listening itself? One obtains wisdom, samadhi, and the dharani of remembrance. One discerns the boundaries of what to abandon and what to adopt, virtue increases, and all sins diminish. Gods and humans praise, and the darkness of ignorance is dispelled. Adorned upon a lotus, one hears the vast Dharma, and quickly attains the Dharma King, the sorrowless one (Ashoka). From the Treatise on the Great Vehicle's Instructions, The Wish-Fulfilling Jewel Treasury: The Eleventh Chapter, on the Dharma of the Listener-Disciples, is complete. Then, the teachings to be determined are shown. All phenomena of existence, samsara, and nirvana, are shown as inner and outer due to acceptance and rejection. First, regarding the outer non-Buddhist schools, there are six teachers and twenty groups of fears, as well as sixty-two and three hundred and sixty, eleven categories, and five schools of logic. The six teachers are: Purana Kassapa (पूर्ण काश्यप, pūrṇa kāśyapa, 圆满迦叶波), Makkhali Gosala (मस्करी गोशाला, maskarī gośāla, 末伽梨·拘舍梨), Ajita Kesakambali (प्रकुधकत्यायन, prakudhakattyāyana, 婆丘陀·迦旃延), Pakudha Kaccayana (संजय वेलट्ठपुत्त, sañjaya velaṭṭhaputta, 散惹夷·毗罗胝子), Nigantha Nataputta (निर्ग्रन्थ ज्ञातृपुत्र, nirgrantha jñātrputra, 尼乾陀·若提子), Katyayana and Nigantha Nataputta. Each clings to their own view and disparages all others. The five aggregates, such as form, are the self, and the self exists within them. The self arises from them, and the self has dominion over them. These twenty types of clinging to the self, because they are not true, hold onto all afflictions and faults. The eighteen types of former extremes, such as asserting permanence, and the forty-four types of latter extremes, such as having consciousness. All of them, because they have entered into improper views, are inverted thoughts that adorn existence itself. One hundred and twenty types, such as those with leaves. When the three times are added together, there are three hundred and sixty types. They are separated from the correct path and wander in the cycle of permanence and annihilation.

Three hundred and sixty-one sectarian tenets, divided into three: former, later, and present. Ten with equal beginnings, nine constantly firm, six falsehoods, seven meditations and faiths, Six teachers, six kinds of ministers, four incidental, six divisions of तर्क, Four causal views, two kinds of preceptors, secret speech, and thus eleven. Summarizing these, there are two: permanence and annihilation. Since there is no change of gross and subtle, and it is meaningless, Just as there is no permanence, where is annihilation? Those names with many natures, Sāṃkhya, Vaiśeṣika, practitioners of nudity, Pūraṇa, thus these five. The self and the chief of Sāṃkhya, and all transformations, saying that liberation is through knowledge, that is false. Different natures, gathering contradictions, the Vaiśeṣikas, with six knowable meanings, Establish liberation, which is not real. Holding the pervader Īśvara as a god, saying the Vedas are प्रमाण, Desiring to establish liberation through ten vows, but that liberation has no benefit, Therefore, one should abandon the inverted doctrines. The Vedas as प्रमाण, in the difference of function, That side which speaks of liberation through secret words, like space pervading, possesses nine differences. Not real, but waves of conceptual oceans, difficult to cross the ocean of existence, how wondrous! The naked ones follow Brahmā, taking the Victorious One's teachings as प्रमाण, Saying that the meaning of words is seven, not one, therefore abandoning the reality of the Victorious One, They dwell in the dense forest of existence. The Pūraṇas rely on the seven correct paths, Because of close reliance, they follow the sky, deceiving self and others, harming all the world. Liberation, following the holy path of the Victorious One, whoever holds it, there are also two, Inferior vehicle and unsurpassed vehicle. The inferior is also divided into two by the order of faculties, Śrāvaka and Pratyekabuddha. The Śrāvakas have divisions of nature and, Doctrinal tenets, truly there are three. The difference between the Mahāsāṃghika and the Sthavira, Divided into eighteen schools, later there are other divisions. The Śrāvaka path, what is abiding by hearing and thinking, Śramaṇa dharma, etc., path and liberation, and, because of common agreement, truth is what should be refuted. All the doctrinal tenets, if divided, are truly of two kinds, common and individual order. Common desire
