Conquer hatred with love, Maintain the conduct of a Bodhisattva. With a pure altruistic intention, Broaden your mind. With a mind of benefiting others, free from torment, You effortlessly gather all happiness and joy. With great compassion, free from all hatred, Generate the supreme altruistic Bodhicitta (བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་མཆོག, bodhicitta, *bodhicitta*, the mind of enlightenment). Perfect all the paths of the Bodhisattvas with ease, And soon bestow the state of the unsurpassable four Kayas (སྐུ་བཞི, *ku bzhi*, *catur-kāya*, four bodies). Thus, the doors to the benefits of abandoning anger, Are as numerous as the dust particles of the earth, as stated in the scriptures. Next is the third point, how to abandon anger. Also, when encountering various degrees of harm, The mind cannot bear it, And thoughts of hatred and torment strongly manifest. When anger arises, transform your mind in this way: Place the Guru and all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas before you as witnesses, And with shame, make this supplication: 'Alas! From childhood until now, The teachings I have respectfully requested from the Guru, Are now rendered meaningless by a single instance of anger. How many times have I turned my mind towards the sacred Dharma, But now, with anger, I have let my mind run wild. Until now, all the virtuous deeds of body and speech, Are now destroyed by a single instance of torment. Until now, the countless mantras I have recited, Are now rendered ineffective by a single sudden event. Until now, the attachment to virtuous thoughts, Is now destroyed by a single evil thought. Until now, the self-benefit I have achieved through the Dharma, Is now rendered meaningless by a single sudden event.' Alas! The hateful enemy, the vicious one, In an instant, steals the happiness of this life and the next. Not to be compared with ordinary enemies, This is a more terrible tormentor than an executioner, A heartless destroyer, I know this today. To let it control me as before, Is more foolish than the ignorant herdsmen of the world. From now on, I vow never to let you control me. Holding this thought steadfastly, And widely searching for the objects of anger, Merely recognizing the nature of anger, In the reality where nothing is accomplished, Rest in the uncorrected natural state, And place it in the realm of great peace and perfection. Thus, the methods for pacifying anger, Constantly strive in every way, Always keep your mind undisturbed by anger, And firmly wear the armor of patience against the harm of others. Thus, sing this song of Dharma, About the reasons for abandoning torment, May all Dharma friends cherish it as an ornament for their ears. May your minds always be beautiful with patience! From this day forward, may the mind of patience arise!' --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
