Collected Teachings of Ngawang Lodro Drakpa JNLD294: 'The Method of Preventing Anger - A Nectar Drip for Eradicating the Suffering of Malice' The Method of Preventing Anger - A Nectar Drip for Eradicating the Suffering of Malice The Method of Preventing Anger - A Nectar Drip for Eradicating the Suffering of Malice Possessing an atmosphere of great love and compassion, a kind parent who cherishes all beings as their own children, holding a lotus in hand with compassionate eyes, may the supreme protector of the world always protect us. Inseparable from that, a treasure of great compassion, a friend who offers a feast of Dharma with love and compassion, with kindness surpassing the actual Buddha, I prostrate to the venerable root guru. Proceeding from all aspects of benefit and happiness, it is the foundation of auspicious merit, pure virtue, and the vast ocean, the source of accomplishing virtuous and peaceful conduct, the mind that tolerates harm from others, truly rare and wonderful! In order to genuinely practice this Dharma, one must first understand the faults that contradict it, the benefits of completely abandoning these faults, and the methods of how to abandon them. In order not to abandon the vows from the depths of my heart, and to bring joy to my Dharma brothers, I have composed these contents into verses, please listen carefully to the meaning of the verses and keep them in mind. Firstly, the faults of anger are: destroying oneself and the causes of happiness, creating negative consequences in the future, a malicious and harsh mind that constantly torments the body and mind. Whether high or low, anger burns the self, separates one from the seeds of the path to enlightenment, and cuts off all benefits and happiness, therefore, avoid it like avoiding a plague. Generating anger is like igniting a blazing fire, burning all pure virtues, the fire of anger raging in the heart is like a poisonous tree growing, and everything related to it will be destroyed. Anger in the heart is like a great storm, destroying and ruining the clouds of one's own happiness, malicious anger is like a venomous snake, causing fear and aversion in others. Being burned by anger is like drinking fierce poison, causing one to lose all self-control, leaving the doors wide open, anger and malice are like the darkness at the end of an eon, causing confusion and enveloping the mind in darkness. Anger and harshness are like swirling dust, stirring up the clear and pure mind, making it turbid, sudden malice is like a fierce storm. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anger steals the light of loving-kindness, harboring resentment is like carrying a black bag. In the future, one is involuntarily bound to evil realms, hatred is like a demon without love. It always harms all virtuous Dharma minds, anger is like an ocean that produces all suffering. Waves of old age, sickness, and death churn within it, anger is like a powerful venomous snake. It uproots all virtuous deeds and merit, moreover, even a moment of anger, Can destroy accumulated roots of virtue, etc., endless faults are proclaimed in the Buddha's teachings. Secondly, the benefits of abandoning all anger are that it becomes the door to generating all paths and fruits. It cannot be struck down by discordant sins, it is a perfect armor of true virtue. This extraordinary mind that does not generate anger is truly wonderful, like steadfast earth. It is the fundamental basis for all qualities and fruits, non-anger is like immaculate water. It can cleanse all cruel defilements, the non-harming peaceful mind is like fire. It can burn all sins and impurities, virtuous thoughts are like the nature of wind. It can carry the banner of fame and reputation in all directions, enduring harm is like a good medicinal tree. Relying on it brings happiness and joy to oneself and others, not generating anger is like vast space. It can accommodate all good and bad, pacifying evil thoughts is like immortal nectar. From the peace of non-anger, one gathers all beings, without anger, adorned with peaceful and gentle conduct. Carefully observing the good and bad deeds of body, speech, and mind, not being controlled by anger, one gains autonomy.
