Collected Teachings of Ngawang Lodro Drakpa JNLD292: Visualization during Buddha Name Recitation, etc. Visualization during Buddha Name Recitation, etc. Visualization during Buddha Name Recitation, etc. When reciting the names of the Buddhas, we are in the particularly tamable realm of the Protector Amitabha (梵文:Amitābha,阿弥陀佛) and the Noble Avalokiteśvara (梵文:Avalokiteśvara,观自在), so we should have expectations accordingly. First, purify your perception in this way: think of the place where you are as the actual pure land of Sukhavati (梵文:Sukhāvatī,幸福的). In the sky in front of you, within a cocoon of rainbows and clouds, is a vast Dharma palace, with limitless decorations. Inside, on a throne supported by peacocks, adorned with a lotus and moon cushion, is the embodiment of all refuges, the Victorious Protector Amitabha, whose body color is as bright as the rising sun, and whose great red light pervades all realms of the world. He has a crown protuberance on his head, a white hair between his eyebrows, and the marks of wheels on his hands and feet, completely perfecting all the wondrous beauties, with a joyful smile on his face. He wears the three Dharma robes, sits in the vajra posture, holds a begging bowl in his hands in the mudra of meditation, and is the supreme nirmanakaya (Skt. nirmāṇakāya, 化身), with the appearance of a celibate. To his right is the prince Avalokiteśvara, wearing various silk garments, holding a white lotus in his right hand and giving refuge with his left hand. To his left is the prince Mahāsthāmaprāpta (梵文:Mahāsthāmaprāpta,大势至), wearing various silk garments, holding a lotus in his left hand and giving refuge with his right hand, sitting joyfully. Surrounding the Victorious One, the main figure and the retinue of three, is a vast gathering of great vehicle bodhisattvas, with attachment, and an immeasurable assembly. There are also the lesser vehicle shravakas (Skt. śrāvaka, 声闻), wearing saffron robes, a community without attachment, like a great ocean overflowing. The splendor of the ocean of the retinue shines from all directions, and you should have a clear conviction that they are well-seated. In front of these refuge objects, all sentient beings equal to the sky are present, and with body, speech, and mind, they respectfully join their palms at the three places, prostrating to the body, speech, and mind of the Victorious One, the main figure and the entire retinue. You must sincerely hope that all the sins of body, speech, and mind that you and others have accumulated since beginningless lifetimes will be completely purified. And that immediately after this life, you will be reborn. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In order to generate a strong aspiration to be born in the Western Pure Land of Sukhavati without being interrupted by other things, at the feet of the Protector (Bhagavan) and his retinue. In order to be born there, recite the name of Amitabha and the six-syllable mantra of Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་མ་ཎི་པདྨེ་ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: ओँ मणि पद्मे हूँ, Sanskrit Romanization: oṃ maṇi padme hūṃ, Literal Chinese meaning: Om, Mani, Padme, Hum), accumulate roots of virtue from many aspects, and finally dedicate all the good deeds done to become the cause of being born in the Great Bliss Land, and for the benefit of others, aspire to attain perfect enlightenment (Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi) in the near future, as well as pure intentions and other vast virtuous deeds, in the manner of perfecting the four causes of Sukhavati, with unwavering great faith and devotion to both Protector Amitabha and Avalokiteshvara, thus practice pure vision, recite the Buddha's name and aspiration prayers, etc. You should recite the appropriate Buddha's name and aspiration prayers. This was written by Ma Ti. The one who wrote these words is named Yönten Ming. In order to dispel the non-humans (amanussa) and spirits (bhuta) that harm life and fortune, the eighteen thousand types of demons (mara), and the three hundred and sixty types of obstacles (vighna) that hinder politics and religion. The five wisdoms (jnana) are: the Dharmadhatu-jnana, which is free from all elaborations, Vairochana; the Adarsha-jnana, which knows everything as it is, Akshobhya; the Samata-jnana, which is the equality of samsara and nirvana, Ratnasambhava; the Pratyaveksha-jnana, which distinguishes the two truths (satya-dvaya), Amitabha; and the Krityanushthana-jnana, which spontaneously accomplishes all actions, Amoghasiddhi. The five poisonous emotions are: attachment (raga) to desirable objects that are tainted; hatred (dvesha) towards undesirable objects; ignorance (moha) of the true nature of things; the arrogance of pride (mana); and the jealousy (irshya) of not being able to tolerate the benefits of others. The five types of obstacles are: the female demon (mo) arising from attachment, the male demon (pho) arising from hatred, the hermaphrodite demon (ma ning) arising from ignorance, the king demon (gyal) arising from pride, and the vengeful spirit (dam sri) arising from jealousy. The five aggregates (skandha) are: the ten forms that are the object of enjoyment are the form aggregate (rupa); the feeling of experiencing suffering, happiness, and neutrality is the feeling aggregate (vedana); the part of consciousness that distinguishes objects is the perception aggregate (samjna); the collection of all actions and those who distinguish the differences of objects is the formation aggregate (samskara); the one who knows the nature of objects separately is the consciousness aggregate (vijnana).
