Collection of Teachings by Ngawang Lodro Drakpa JNLD63: The Method of Phowa (Transference of Consciousness) through Guru Rinpoche - Opening the Door to the Supreme Pure Land 6-35 The Method of Phowa (Transference of Consciousness) through Guru Rinpoche - Opening the Door to the Supreme Pure Land The Method of Phowa (Transference of Consciousness) through Guru Rinpoche - Opening the Door to the Supreme Pure Land Here, regarding the method of performing the profound path of Phowa through Guru Rinpoche, the fundamental generation stage is: In an instant, one's own substantial body transforms into: the inner center, clear and bright inside and out, like the Avadhuti (Tibetan: ཨཱ་ཝ་དྷཱུ་ཏཱི་, Sanskrit Devanagari: āva dhūtī, Sanskrit Romanization: ava dhūtī, Literal Chinese meaning: Central Channel) like a crystal tube, as thick as an arrow shaft, serving as the pillar of life force. The lower end inserted into the navel chakra, closed; the upper end inserted into the crown chakra, opened like the sky. In its center, directly in front of the heart, the inherent mind is of the nature of a five-colored bindu, about the size of a pea. Abiding in its own purity, radiant like a peacock feather. The vessel and essence of the world, self-manifest and pure, with complete ornamentation. According to whatever beings are to be tamed, the gate of taming appears. Visualize this place as the supreme pure land where one practices on the earth. On one's own crown chakra, in the space encircled by a rainbow tent, above and below, on the excellent three-tiered cushion of lotus and moon, on the initial cushion is the Dharmakaya Amitabha (Tibetan: འོད་དཔག་མེད།, Sanskrit Devanagari: Amitābha, Sanskrit Romanization: Amitābha, Literal Chinese meaning: Immeasurable Light). Complete with clear marks and signs, in the form of the supreme Nirmanakaya. On the middle cushion is the noble Avalokiteśvara (Tibetan: སྤྱན་རས་གཟིགས།, Sanskrit Devanagari: Avalokiteśvara, Sanskrit Romanization: Avalokiteśvara, Literal Chinese meaning: One Who Looks with Compassion). Dancing with the conduct of a great Bodhisattva. On the lower cushion is Guru Rinpoche, together with the assembly of bliss-dakinis, appearing clearly. Then, pray: Emaho! Unchanging light, the original Buddha, the Dharmakaya nature that is pure from the beginning, the unobstructed light of the Victorious Amitabha, is the sole refuge for all beings without exception. Pray with unbearable, intense longing. The inherent mind, the bindu of clear essence, like a powerful arrow shot in an instant, through the path of the central channel, transfer it to the heart of the Guru. May it merge into the Dharmadhatu wisdom, 6-36 the nature of the original Dharmakaya, in the state of unchanging, self-aware, the single mind of Kunsang (Tibetan: ཀུན་བཟང་།, Sanskrit Devanagari: Samantabhadra, Sanskrit Romanization: Samantabhadra, Literal Chinese meaning: All Good) the Victorious One. Bless me to transfer to the Dharmadhatu. From the Dharmakaya arises the perfect Sambhogakaya, the compassionate Lord, the Lotus Holder (Tibetan: པད་དཀར་འཆང་།, Sanskrit Devanagari: Padminīdhara, Sanskrit Romanization: Padminīdhara, Literal Chinese meaning: Lotus Holder). The protector who cares for the realms of beings with great deeds, the Bodhisattva who fulfills the hopes of beings as vast as space. Unbearable... etc., recite the eight lines as before. The great dancer of emanation, the glory of the Vidyadhara Lama, the lord who delights and gathers the vast peaceful and wrathful ones, the second Buddha, the guide of beings, Lotus-born, whose deeds are unparalleled in this degenerate age. Unbearable... etc., recite. May the supreme body of wisdom swiftly... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Equal to the expanse of space, manifesting various forms to tame beings as needed. In accordance with the minds of different beings, displaying rare and wondrous adornments. Guiding all unfamiliar sentient beings, a protector indeed. (Unbearable...etc. repeated). Holding the treasury of countless secret mantras. The splendor of eighty-four thousand collections of teachings, the supreme expression. Indistinguishable from the speech of all Buddhas. With a pleasing voice, harmonizing with the faculties of beings like an ocean. (Unbearable...etc. repeated). The naturally great perfection, clear light Bodhicitta. Primordial wisdom vast, the nature of reality inherently complete. Pure and equal Dharmadhatu, the excellent essence of noble wisdom. Possessing the glory of complete and vast abundance. (Unbearable...etc. repeated). Thus, the master who perfects the greatness of the three secrets. The essence of all Buddhas of the three times, Padmasambhava. The lord possessing immeasurable wisdom, compassion, and power. To whom I pray with unwavering faith. The great transference of the original meaning's clear light. The pristine awareness of Kadag, remaining in that very state. The nature free from transferring and being transferred. Unattached, relaxed, naturally let go. This is the Dzogchen, the yoga of space. In its own radiance, the three Kayas are spontaneously accomplished. Self-illuminating, self-sustaining, the great transference into the rainbow body. Completely pure in the Dharmata realm, Phat! Thus, in the state of blending Dharmadhatu and awareness, remain as much as possible. In between, according to one's own disposition, one may utter 'Phat' or 'Hik' to cut through elaboration. Thus, by means of both focused and unfocused methods, repeatedly strive in the profound path of Phowa, and before long, one will be liberated into the non-duality of Dharmadhatu and awareness. This is a concise method of practicing the profound Phowa, transmitted by Guru Rinpoche - opening the door to excellence. At the request of the faithful patron Lhayi, residing in the lower part of E region, Mati immediately wrote it down. Om Swasti! Auspicious! The primordial protector, self-existent and spontaneously accomplished. Vast as space, manifesting various dances to tame beings as needed, never ceasing. Therefore, to tame beings of different capacities, displaying wondrous illusions. Manifesting as needed, these liberations that please the minds of beings are truly rare! These virtuous deeds are like an endless ocean. What is recorded here is but a drop of Padmasambhava's activities. With beautiful words, praising the Great Bliss Vajra Flame, this is the ultimate excellence. This is a concise verse, holding the splendor of auspiciousness and wealth. May the light of its Dharma illuminate all directions, dispelling the darkness of sins. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
