Collection of Teachings by Ngawang Lodro Drakpa JNLD40: The Nectar Drops that Purify the Mind's Defilements: A Method for Mind Training Meditation The Nectar Drops that Purify the Mind's Defilements: A Method for Mind Training Meditation The Nectar Drops that Purify the Mind's Defilements: A Method for Mind Training Meditation Having paid homage to the Lama, here is a brief explanation of the method for mind-training meditation: First, relax your mind and think like this: Now that I have obtained a uniquely special human body with all the favorable conditions for practicing Dharma, both internally and externally, I must not waste this life due to distraction and laziness. I am determined. Think about it again and again. Obtaining a body to practice Dharma is like holding a treasure. I don't know when I will go to the next world, so I must not put it off. I must see if I can accomplish genuine Dharma practice quickly, starting today or tomorrow. I am determined. Think about it again and again. In general, wherever one is born in samsara, from the peak of existence to the Avici hell, there is no lasting happiness. Especially in this human realm, there is the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death. On top of that, there are unexpected invasions by enemies, separation from loved ones, affliction by disease, and various other undesirable things that come involuntarily. No matter what you think about, there is no certainty of happiness. Now, if I can accomplish genuine Dharma practice to have lasting happiness, that would be excellent. No matter what happens, I am determined not to abandon this Dharma. Think about it again and again. One day, what is called the 'next life' will come. It is not like falling asleep unconscious. Without losing even a hair's breadth of the obvious and the hidden, one must experience inescapable happiness and suffering following the deeds of virtue and vice. Now, looking at my own way of practicing, I am convinced that I will not have happiness in the next life. If I care about myself, I should strive for my own benefit. Think about it again and again. All sentient beings, as vast as the sky, are like my current root mother, who has cared for me with precious kindness. May they all be endowed with all happiness. I will make sure they are endowed. May the Lama and the Three Jewels bless them to be endowed. May they be free from all suffering. I will make sure they are free. May the Lama and the Three Jewels bless them to be free. Think about it again and again. May all my happiness and virtue be given without reservation to all mother sentient beings, and may they be endowed with all happiness and virtue. May the suffering of all mother sentient beings --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Imagine taking upon yourself all suffering and sins, and separating them from the root of suffering. To make this aim clearer, with your own breathing, imagine your own happiness and merit in the form of white light entering from the right nostril, merging into sentient beings, filling them with happiness and merit. At the same time, imagine their suffering and sins in the form of black light entering from the left nostril, merging into yourself, thereby destroying the self-cherishing that dwells in my heart, which is as clear as a lamp. It is said that the way to accept suffering is to start with oneself, and then accept the suffering of those who are fundamentally close to you. It is very important to have a shift of conviction on this point. Then, let your own mind, the nature of awareness that is clear and empty, be separated from all the complexities of sudden thoughts and concepts, maintain the unchanging nature of inner awareness, relax in a natural way, let all clinging and attachment thoughts naturally dissipate, in their own self-knowing way, cultivate the experience of spontaneous accomplishment in the great perfection state, this is the special instruction of our lineage 4-434. The above is a brief summary of how to conduct Shamatha-Vipassana meditation. After that, during the post-meditation period, have love and compassion for all sentient beings, cultivate the thought of cherishing others more than yourself, and resolve to regard the root of all dharmas as your own mind. Therefore, it is very important to constantly strive to observe the nature of awareness. In addition, in all activities such as walking, standing, sitting, and lying down, constantly recite 'May their suffering ripen on me, may all my merits ripen on them,' and 'Give benefits and victories to others, take losses and defeats for yourself,' etc., to transform your mind. In addition, in the intermediate gaps, when attachment arises to pleasant things, hatred arises to unpleasant enemies, etc., or when time is spent in the intermediate state with peaceful happiness, transform your mind, wishing that all three poisons of sentient beings gather in yourself. Alternatively, maintain the clear emptiness of the natural state. In addition, when unwanted harm occurs to oneself, one should think that this is none other than my own self-cherishing, and that they are doing me a great favor by helping me to exhaust my previous bad karma, or one should view the harmer as inseparable from my own mind. In addition, in the intervals between meditations, one should constantly observe how one's own mind moves, and constantly strive to benefit others or observe one's own mind. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
