Please view the Bardo Introduction. Homage to glorious Vajrasattva! Son of the lineage, for those with faith, the instruction of introduction will be shown. That is, the initial basis, the great purity of Sa (ས་, seed syllable of emptiness, emptiness), the unobstructed power, spontaneously accomplished and manifest in great compassion, this becomes four or three kinds of ignorance. For this deluded body, outwardly, in the palace of the citta heart, reside the forty-two peaceful deities of the Buddhas. Its power, in the wheel of the conch shell in the brain, are the fifty-eight wrathful Herukas of the blood drinkers, spontaneously accomplished from the beginning and abiding. These also abide in the center of the base light mandala, bodies as small as mustard seeds, like looking at something with the eyes. The profound radiance of wisdom abides in the manner of being inseparable from sound, light, and rays. As it says in the Longsal: The original purity is like the sky, Spontaneous compassion is like the sun, Light and emptiness are inseparable. And as it says in the Garland of Pearls: The past white dharmas, Are all complete in body and mind. And as it says in Rangshar: The intention of the true Buddha, Is in the self-continuum of all sentient beings, Abiding in the manner of body and wisdom. Inwardly, the five families of father and mother are clear in a mandala, residing in the center of the heart. Secretly, the Dakas and Dakinis abide like manifest enlightenment. These also abide as great, spontaneously accomplished clarity, without difference in meaning from the appearance of the individual. That is, the essence is original purity emptiness, the nature is spontaneous accomplishment appearing as body and light, and the compassionate activity pervades all. These three are not separate in meaning, but in being inseparable and individually clear, like the sun and rays, or like water and moisture, or like fire and heat, or like the sky and emptiness, in being individually clear, they are inseparable and abide without being different. These states of being also now abide in the palace of the four elements of the body, the citta and the conch shell. As it says in Thalgyur: In the common and citta channels, Abides the unmade pure dharmata. And as it says in the Garland of Pearls: Abiding is the heart in the center of the citta. And as it says in the Longsal: Awareness radiance spontaneous wisdom body, Abides in the citta in a cluster. Its power in the conch shell of the brain, Abides clearly as the body of the wrathful ones. Thus it is said. This also enters the path channel.

Therefore, the door of the senses, the eye, becomes clear, as it is said in the "Pearl Rosary": "The path is the four channels through which the winds move." And as it is said in the "Vast Expanse of Clarity": "The path is the channels, like the sun's rays spreading in four directions; the door is the eye of the senses becoming clear, like a mirror reflecting objects, seen through the power of conditions." And as it is said in the "Adornment of Jewels": "The abiding light abides in the center of the heart (藏文:ཙིཏྟའི་,梵文天城体:चित्त,梵文罗马拟音:citta,汉语字面意思:心),the light of self-nature is clear in the expanse of the sky." Thus, to introduce the wisdom that abides in this way, it is introduced through three aspects: example, meaning, and sign. First, the fortunate disciple, in a solitary place, arranges a vast feast offering (Tsok and Torma), makes offerings to the Lama, performs prostrations and circumambulations, and at a time when the sky is free from clouds, when the sun has gone to the south, in front of a red curtain on the north side, arranges luminous objects such as mirrors, displays peaceful and wrathful deities, or has Vajra brothers put on wrathful attire and placed there. The student, facing north from the shadow of the south, holds an octagonal transparent crystal to the senses and gazes at the sky, whereupon rays of wisdom and peaceful and wrathful deities appear. This is represented by symbols and examples, meaning that wisdom is introduced as self-appearing. At night, it is introduced through mirrors and lamps. Also, by covering the eyes with silk dyed with colors and gazing at the sun (藏文:སཱུརྱ་,梵文天城体:सूर्य,梵文罗马拟音:sūrya,汉语字面意思:太阳),the appearance of wisdom appears clearly in a continuous stream, and it should be introduced. If one does not believe this, at night, pressing one's own senses with the middle finger will cause a vision filled with wisdom to appear. The ears, when blocked with one's own middle fingers, will produce the natural sound of Dharma, which is a sign that present awareness abides in the body, and faith is born through experience. The introduction to the Bardo of Dharmata is as follows: at noon when the sun is overhead, cover the openings of the house, and the Lama forcefully presses the student's fontanel with his thumb, causing him to faint. Then, holding up a mirror of Vajrasattva to the window of the house will cause the house to be filled with rays of rainbow light. At that time, the Vajra brothers enter into wrathful attire, threatening with headdresses and weapons, and playing all kinds of musical instruments. When the student awakens from the faint, he sees the three—sound, light, and rays—and the appearance of the wrathful deities, and feels fear, terror, and shrinking.
