When the sky is clear of clouds, look towards the south, focus on any object, contract the edges of the eyes, and look at the central object. Do not focus on the lamp itself, but look at the appearance itself. Then, appearances will arise, or turn into hail, etc., to the point where land and stones are not visible. Then, the eyes will also be free from dullness. Even when focusing on this and looking, there will be contraction when looking. By looking at it itself, according to the distinctions of superior, middling, and inferior, after practicing continuously for eleven days, twenty-one days, and thirty-five days, the appearances of things like land and stones will cease. It is certain that one will experience appearances like those of the bardo of existence. This is the teaching on indicating the key points of the three direct methods. The key point of the empty tigle of the lamp is: when appearances cease in this way, focus on the lamp itself and practice. After five years, seven years, and eleven years, the appearances of the five wisdoms will certainly arise in complete purity. It is certain that one will enjoy appearances like those of the dharmata bardo of self-nature completely pure. By aligning with such key instructions, the meaning of the yogi will be accomplished.
