A Song of View on the Mahayana Path, the Wheel of Great Bliss. A Song of View on the Mahayana Path, the Wheel of Great Bliss. Namo Padma Karaya. From the self-nature of devotion to the Wheel of Great Bliss, In the center of a thousand-petaled lotus of excellent birth, The essence and protector of all samsara and nirvana, stability and movement, May the Lotus-Born Vajra always protect my mind. I, with a leisure and fortune endowed with meaning, Have been taken in by the lama and heard the profound nine instructions. Through that power, though my mind is inferior, I have understood the meaning of sutras and tantras, Without error, and have the courage to speak as it is about the views of Mahamudra and Dzogchen. What else is this but the kindness of the all-pervading lama? I remember the kindness from the bottom of my heart, great lama. I offer this song as a prayer to the guru. To the yogi, this is how it appears in practice: The material objects that are labeled as external objects, And the consciousness that is labeled as self-awareness, The confusion of examining whether they are one or different is a mistake. One is also the nature of reality, two are also the nature of reality, That is also the nature of reality, and not that is also the nature of reality. In the original nature, everything is equal, And the indivisible pervades all kinds of things. Mind and mental events, thoughts, are always labeled, What is the point of impermanence when the cause of permanence is exhausted? The essence is unchanging, and the appearance is all-encompassing. This great Shentong Madhyamaka is wonderful. The apprehended and the apprehender, the totally imputed, are empty of their own nature. The other-dependent consciousness is empty of the ultimate result. The perfectly established nature of reality is empty of the extremes of elaboration. This way of emptiness is considered the ultimate meaning. This way is not accepted by the rigid arrogance of logic, And the minds of those who hold onto the appearance of being great and broad. The three wheels of dharma are condensed into one intention, The ultimate meaning is the meaning of the final wheel. Self-knowing, self-illuminating, without foundation, without root, This is understood as the ultimate of views. That way is meditated on by the common path, In this land of snow, it is known as Mahamudra. That meaning is the essential point of the uncommon profound. The view is established and repeated in meditation. Naked seeing, resting in stillness, this essential life force, I say that this is Dzogchen Trekchö. Alas, friends of illusion, listen here, What is the point of relying on this vague appearance? If you hold onto truth in objects, it is a mistaken mind. If you hold onto the mind as something that is not an object, it is a deluded mind. Therefore, examine that meaning.

All, all are conceptual minds. Apart from that, mere planning is consciousness. The difference between consciousness and wisdom is: Like medicine and poison, like clouds and sky. Like gold and tarnish, like mud and jewels. It is said that one must be skilled in distinguishing between consciousness and wisdom. Here in the snowy land, the supreme among the wise, Drimé Özer (Vimalamitra) with the four reliances, And Rangjung Dorje (the Third Karmapa), Drolma (Tara), and others. Do those with discerning minds understand this teaching? Is the meaning without error, the essence of the Victorious Ones' intention? Have you seen the definitive sutras and tantras? Life is fleeting, like the business of trade and profit, Even for a small amount, much thought and analysis are invested. For the ultimate aspiration of lifetimes, The entrance to the sacred Dharma, why not examine it carefully? Even though my view is obscured and seized by delusion, Whatever pure aspirations I have accumulated in the past, I have met the Dharma, the essential heart of its definitive meaning, And having entered into faith, joy arises within me. Some scholars say that view is a branch, But Padmasambhava, Vimalamitra, Vairochana, and others, The differences in the vehicles of some Buddhas who appeared in person, Are distinguished by view, and I follow them. Some proclaim that there is no view superior to Madhyamaka, But if the views of the Great Vehicle are indistinguishable, What is the point of distinguishing between the views of Cittamatra and Madhyamaka? If it is Madhyamaka, and there is no difference, Why did you distinguish between Svatantrika and Prasangika? If the ultimate of view is merely non-elaboration, What does Prasangika have more than Svatantrika? Therefore, this assertion that there is no view superior to Prasangika, Is just an old, established power. Therefore, the view of one's own system that is superior to Prasangika, Is the view of the sutra system, the Vijnanavada, Madhyamaka, And the ultimate view of mantra, Dzogchen. Although it is free from elaboration, it is because the basis of freedom from elaboration, Is accurately hitting the essential point. Therefore, those minds that hold Vijnanavada to be merely mind, And think that there is no difference in the view of Dzogchen, I urge you to further use that excellent eye of discriminating wisdom, To accept and reject upwards, examine the Victorious Ones' teachings, sutras, tantras, and treatises, And then enter this excellent path! Although I am of little wisdom and ignorant, I have developed faith in the Victorious Ones' teachings, This conduct that others can never shake, Is that of a follower of the Dharma with steadfast faith. Therefore, for those who share the same disposition as me, I have spoken these words to bring joy, And may you also understand the true nature of the unerring view.
