If one regrets thinking it is a non-Buddhist teaching, and even in the path of the Sutras, one has not abandoned attachment to purity, and one does not see the meaning of equality, but engages in cultivating virtuous thoughts, whatever is said to be a collection of merit, such as killing a black man with a short spear, and having intercourse with the captain's daughter, etc., is explained as a cause for increasing merit. The hidden meaning is that in the generation stage, the mudras, etc., and in the completion stage, the functions and bindings of the channels, winds, and bindus, etc., are explained as hidden meanings. The ultimate meaning is that the intention of ultimate clear light and the reality of the union of the two truths are explained as ultimate. The fifth ornament is, as it is said, "There are two kinds of differences in listening and explaining, namely, assemblies and disciples." The assembly explanation is according to the literal meaning, explaining the common meaning of the common vehicle; the disciple explanation is not according to the literal meaning, but explains the ultimate true meaning. The sixth ornament is, as it is said in the "Important": "There are five kinds of vessels of beings, such as the Utpala lotus, the lotus, the white lotus, the red lotus, and the analogy of sandalwood and jewels." It means that one observes the vessels of five kinds of people, such as those like the Utpala lotus, those like the white lotus and the red lotus, those like sandalwood, and those like jewels, and then explains. The seventh ornament is, as it is said in the "Important": "There are two kinds of intentions of the truth, namely, conventional truth and ultimate truth." It means that relying on the previous six, one summarizes the meaning of the tantra into the two truths and explains. Thus, this method of explaining the seven ornaments, although not the traditional method of explaining this tantra, is said to be the general method of explaining Mahayoga. Second, the way the former people explained it was to explain from the tip like an arrow, that is, in the characteristics, all dharmas are summarized into the three bases, paths, and results; to explain from the waist like a spear, that is, in the fifth chapter, all dharmas are summarized into the characteristics of knowing things—view, the characteristics of causing arising—meditation, the fruit of becoming the path—the four and three vidyadharas. These are summarized into three and explained; to explain from the hilt like a sword, that is, in the last chapter, all dharmas are summarized into the four appearances and explained. Third, the saying of the Kadampa branch is to explain through the five dharmas, namely, the nature of things.
