The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom. The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom. Thus I have heard. At one time, the Bhagavan was dwelling in Rajagriha at Vulture Peak Mountain, together with a great gathering of monks and a great gathering of bodhisattvas. At that time, the Bhagavan was absorbed in the samadhi called 'Profound Illumination of Dharma.' Then, at that time, the noble Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva-Mahasattva, while practicing the profound Perfection of Wisdom, also beheld that the five aggregates are empty of intrinsic existence. Then, through the power of the Buddha, the venerable Shariputra said to the noble Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva-Mahasattva: Son of good family, how should one train who wishes to practice the profound Perfection of Wisdom? Having said this, the noble Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva-Mahasattva said to the son of Sharadvati: Shariputra, any son or daughter of good family who wishes to practice the profound Perfection of Wisdom should view it in this way: They should also truly and correctly behold that the five aggregates are empty of intrinsic existence. Form is emptiness; emptiness is form. Emptiness is not other than form; form is also not other than emptiness. Likewise, feeling, perception, mental formations, and consciousness are empty. Shariputra, thus all phenomena are emptiness; without characteristics, unproduced, unceasing, stainless, without stain, without decrease, without increase. Shariputra, therefore, in emptiness there is no form, no feeling, no perception, no mental formations, no consciousness.

No eye, no ear, no nose, no tongue, no body, no mind; No form, no sound, no smell, no taste, no touch, no object of mind; No realm of the eye, and so forth, until no realm of mind consciousness; No ignorance, no ending of ignorance, and so forth, until no aging and death, no ending of aging and death; Likewise, no suffering, no origin, no cessation, no path; No wisdom, no attainment, and also no non-attainment. Shariputra, because there is no attainment, bodhisattvas, relying on Prajnaparamita, have no mental hindrance. Because there is no hindrance, there is no fear. Far beyond perverse views, they reach ultimate Nirvana. All Buddhas of the three times, relying on Prajnaparamita, attain Anuttara Samyak Sambodhi. Therefore, know that Prajnaparamita is the great mantra, the great bright mantra, the supreme mantra, the unequaled mantra, which can eliminate all suffering. Because it is not false, it should be known as true. Therefore, the Prajnaparamita mantra is spoken. Namely, the mantra is: Tadyatha. Gate Gate Paragate Parasamgate Bodhi Svaha! (Sanskrit Devanagari: गते गते पारगते पारसंगते बोधि स्वाहा, Sanskrit Romanization: gate gate pāragate pārasaṃgate bodhi svāhā, Literal Chinese meaning: Go, go, go to the other shore, completely go to the other shore, enlightenment, svāhā!) Shariputra, bodhisattvas, great beings, should thus train in the profound Prajnaparamita. Then, the Blessed One arose from that samadhi and gave approval to the bodhisattva, the great being, the noble Avalokiteshvara, saying: "Well done, well done! Son of noble family, it is so, it is so. Just as you have taught, so should the profound Prajnaparamita be practiced. The Tathagatas also rejoice." When the Blessed One had spoken thus, the venerable Sharadvatiputra, and the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, and that entire assembly, together with the gods, humans, asuras, gandharvas, and the world, rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. The Heart Sutra of the Noble Prajnaparamita is complete.
