Chapter Seven: Analysis of the Difficult Points of Momentary Yoga. Chapter Seven: Analysis of the Difficult Points of Momentary Yoga. Like a craftsman diligently practicing, a bucket constantly pouring water, through the power of accumulating the two accumulations in countless three kalpas, in an instant, I prostrate to the mother of the conquerors who directly realizes the uncontaminated wisdom. Giving and so on, each one is also like that. In this chapter, there are three aspects to be analyzed: the boundary of momentary yoga, its essence, and the meaning of practice. The first is divided into two: refutation and establishment. In the first, Lo chen said: Non-resultant momentary yoga exists from the seventh ground onwards. The Ornament Sutra says: "The Bodhisattva's view is pure, the discipline is extremely pure, equanimity, abandoning self in the Dharma, continuity and all afflictions, extremely pure, different from arrogance, obtaining wisdom in an instant, abandonment." Its commentary says: Vasubandhu said: "Purity of view, purity of discipline, abandoning arrogance in the Dharma, different continuity without arrogance, all afflictions, and extremely pure difference without arrogance," etc., the six are established in order on the first ground and the other six grounds. On the seventh ground, by the power of dwelling without characteristics, one can cultivate the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment in each moment, so the attainment of wisdom in one moment is established. Resultant momentary yoga exists from the eighth ground onwards, because the resultant bodhicitta is explained from there. Based on these two reasons, the latter two are established on the ninth and tenth grounds. If so, then the seventh ground has attachment to characteristics, because there is arrogance there. The thesis is accepted, there is arrogance there, because the Ornament Sutra says: "There is subtle arrogance and the thought of no arrogance." The pervasion is accepted. Also, the first ground has non-resultant momentary yoga, because the types of realization of the impure seven grounds are non-resultant types of realization. Also, it is clear that there is non-resultant momentary yoga there, because there is yoga of cultivating the six perfections simultaneously there. The pervasion of both is accepted. Also, it is clear that there is non-resultant bodhicitta there. The pervasion is accepted. The second is that it exists only at the extreme of existence, because the wisdom of the extreme of existence is one moment.

Because the nature is to be divided into four from the aspect of different meanings. In the root verse, it says, "Nature has four aspects." It also says, "That is also because nature has four aspects." Secondly, among the three, negation, affirmation, and abandonment, some say about the first, "The ultimate yoga of a bodhisattva who combines and simultaneously meditates on the three wisdoms is ultimate." It is also said, "The ultimate yoga of a bodhisattva who realizes and meditates on its nature in one moment is its nature." For the former, some say, "The Bodhicitta of the constant edge is what is to be signified, because that is the nature. Because that is combined and meditated on simultaneously, and that is the ultimate yoga of a bodhisattva." For the latter, some say, "Shakyamuni Buddha is the ultimate of abandonment and realization." This statement is unreasonable, because if one obtains the ultimate yoga of a bodhisattva, then it must be ultimate. Because the wisdom of the constant edge is ultimate. If you admit it, then the bodhisattva who is in the highest Dharma of the path of application should be the highest Dharma of the world, because he has obtained the highest Dharma of that. Also, if one obtains the ultimate realization, then it must be the ultimate realization, because Shakyamuni Buddha is that. If you admit it, then obtaining omniscience must be omniscience. Secondly, the momentary application has a sequence of moments before and after, because that is its nature. If you admit it, then that previous moment should be the direct cause of the Dharmakaya, which is its own result, because that is the wisdom of the constant edge. This is pervasive, because it is said in the sutra, "Perfect enlightenment in one moment." If you admit it, then it should not be, because between you and it, the momentary application is interrupted by the later moment. Also, that should be the ultimate application of the three wisdoms, because that is the momentary application. This is pervasive, because it is said in the sutra, "That is the edge," and it is also said, "From then on, without difference, the true perfect enlightenment in one moment is the ultimate state of the three omnisciences." It cannot be admitted, because there is no application of omniscience outside your moment. The reason is not established.
