Among these, the most important is the lineage guru who transmits the essence of reality, as the later ones gradually realize it. Because meditating on him brings about experience and realization, the second condition for accomplishment is being embraced by a true spiritual friend, which is the condition of ownership. The way to practice this is as explained in the context of guru yoga. Here, if you are also eager to meditate, you should meditate on the guru as a high stack: visualize yourself as any chosen deity, and on its crown, visualize the root guru, and on its crown, visualize the lineage gurus up to Vajradhara. Then perform the seven-branch offering, the four rounds of Manamama, and pray for a long time with slow or fast rhythm, making sure that the experience changes. If you want to receive the four empowerments from the guru, pray with strong faith and devotion, saying: "Venerable gurus, please grant me the four empowerments, purify the four obscurations, complete the four joys, manifest the four bodies, and bestow the accomplishments of the four activities." After praying in this way, the gurus above gradually dissolve into each other, and finally dissolve into the root guru. Visualize the root guru as the embodiment of all gurus, and then receive the four empowerments from him: from the forehead, throat, heart, and navel of the root guru, white, red, blue, and yellow rays of light emanate and dissolve into your four places, thereby purifying the obscurations of body, speech, and mind, along with their habitual tendencies. The wisdom of the four joys, namely joy, supreme joy, special joy, and innate joy, arises in the mind, and the four empowerments are obtained. Contemplate the manifestation of the Nirmanakaya, the Vajra Body, the Sambhogakaya, the Vajra Speech, the Dharmakaya, the Vajra Mind, and the Body of Great Bliss. Finally, the guru dissolves into light and merges into you, contemplating that you are inseparable from the guru, which is the empowerment of the Vajra Acharya. Finally, dedicate the roots of virtue. In this way, thoroughly practice guru yoga. Seventeenth Dharma discourse, sixteenth object of focus. Third, the condition of the object of focus: the various tenets of the tirthikas, the Sravaka schools of our own tradition, the Cittamatrins, the Madhyamikas, the Kriya, Upa, Yoga, and Anuttarayoga, are not merely imputed by conceptual thought, but rather, "this is right, that is wrong," each clinging to their own sect. Due to clinging to what is truly existent, they become obstacles that obscure the realization of the meaning of reality. But here, all of these

Not contradicting anything, and even more surpassing than those, the nature of the all-pervasive Great Seal, the original state, all complete, the mind that transcends all, the self-nature Dharmadhatu that abides in the separation from all extremes of elaboration, that itself is what is to be practiced, therefore one must generate certainty about it. Furthermore, the nature of mind is to be realized as the three bodies, and the wisdom that realizes in that way is also to be determined as being free from grasping and the grasped, transcending the object of wisdom, all realizations are mind itself, and that also is not abandoned but transformed into the four bodies, and the agent is also not established, but held like an illusion, in short, what is to be done without erring in practice is the objective condition. Eighteenth Dharma talk. Seventeenth object. Fourth, the immediately preceding condition is: during the actual time of meditation, do not conceptually think, "I am meditating on this," "I will meditate," "I am meditating," "I have meditated." If meditation arises in me, that is good, if it does not arise, that is not good, do not have any hopes or fears, but maintain this unaltered, ordinary awareness, and do not let it be tainted by good or bad thoughts. This is called the immediately preceding condition, being free from hope and fear. These are needed as preliminaries, for example, when the eye consciousness arises, it also needs the causal condition, the eye consciousness, the dominant condition, the eye faculty, the objective condition, the various forms that appear from the elements, and the immediately preceding condition, the immediately ceased mental faculty, these four together are like the eye seeing forms. In short, turning away from attachment to this life and any worldly things, and having pure renunciation is the causal condition; being seized by the previously mentioned four lamas and the holy lama is the dominant condition; the thought of meditating like this, placing the object of meditation unmistakenly in the field of the mind is the objective condition; the mind resting naturally in the meaning of the great non-conceptual wisdom, which is devoid of the characteristics of the object of meditation, the meditator, hope, fear, etc., is the immediately preceding condition. At the moment when these four come together, a special experience and realization of meditation and the main practice will arise, therefore practice in that way. This is a special preliminary, called the four kinds of accomplishing conditions. Nineteenth Dharma talk. Eighteenth object.
