75 75 Furthermore, all phenomena such as samsara and nirvana appear to be established by the sound-consciousness of speech, thought, and expression, and can be established. All phenomena established in this way appear to be established by the sound-consciousness of speech, thought, and expression, and can be established. The phenomena established in this way are merely objects of consciousness and do not exist otherwise. Thus it is said. Furthermore, all phenomena such as samsara and nirvana appear to be established by the sound-consciousness of speech, thought, and expression, and cannot be established. Therefore, that dharma transcends the real object of consciousness. To say this is a great contradiction. If it is said that all dharmas from form to omniscience are objects of consciousness established by conceptual thought, then it cannot be established that they transcend the objects of consciousness established by conceptual thought. If it is necessary to say this, then there is no contradiction in saying so. The phenomena of samsara and nirvana appear to be established by the sound-consciousness of speech, thought, and expression, and can be established. The phenomena established in this way are merely objects of consciousness and do not exist otherwise. This is on the level of worldly conventions that have not been investigated. The way to establish the conventional truth of all phenomena such as samsara and nirvana is established in this way. Apart from this, phenomena such as samsara and nirvana that are established by their own nature cannot be established. If they could be established, then without relying on the causes and conditions of conceptual thought, samsara and nirvana, etc., would have to exist as phenomena established by their own nature, but this is not established by direct experience. The way in which the phenomena of samsara and nirvana are established as conventionally true cannot be established in the face of rational investigation, the experience and realization of yogis, and the wisdom of the noble ones. Furthermore, all phenomena such as samsara and nirvana appear to be established by the sound-consciousness of speech, thought, and expression, and cannot be established. Therefore, that dharma transcends the real object of consciousness. The adherence to this statement is like the assertions of various internal and external schools. All phenomena such as samsara and nirvana are truly established by their own characteristics in ultimate truth. Therefore, they appear to be unable to be established by the conceptual thought of speech, thought, and expression, and that dharma transcends the real object of consciousness. The reason for saying this is that the nature of the conventional truth of phenomena such as samsara and nirvana, from form to omniscience, is measured by rational knowledge.
