67 67 Thus, in the teaching tradition of Mahamudra, which is well practiced, the essence of the meaning of all sutras and tantras has been extracted. The precious Karma Pakshi's teaching, known as the "Mahamudra Introduction to the Three Kayas," when looking at the nature of the three realms, the source of this conceptual thought, makes all the defilements of the arising and ceasing of the stream of consciousness from the time of the cause, sentient beings, to the time of the result, the state of Buddhahood, manifest and perfectly awaken without defilement. The way to generate such realization is that if the mind of sentient beings, as it appears, is a real phenomenon of arising, ceasing, and abiding, and is established as self-existent and true, then, merely in terms of convention, the mind cannot be a real phenomenon of arising, ceasing, etc., but will become a permanent and nihilistic phenomenon. Because, if the ceasing part of the mind is truly ceasing, then the arising of the mind cannot be established, so the reality of the mind will become a nihilistic phenomenon; if the arising part of the mind is truly arising, then the ceasing of the mind cannot be established, so the reality of the mind will become a permanent phenomenon. Therefore, from beginningless time, we have been wandering in this foundation of samsara because of delusion, grasping and clinging to the moments of the mind as self-existent entities of permanence, nihilism, etc. Now, we must recognize the fault of the illusion of self-existence in the arising and ceasing of the moments of the mind, etc., which are the subject of the teaching, and thus see the face of Dharmakaya, free from the illusion of phenomena, in this way: This mind and conceptual thought only appear to arise, but when we look at the nature of arising, does the reality of arising arise while being abandoned or without being abandoned? If it arises while being abandoned, then arising cannot be established as arising, because it will become the abandonment of the reality of arising; if it arises without being abandoned, then because of that, the reality of arising will not become other and other, so arising itself cannot be established. Therefore, because our own mind is unborn, the opportunity for real phenomena such as arising is not obstructed, so real phenomena can appear to arise. Because there is no cessation for the unborn phenomenon, the opportunity for real phenomena to arise without cessation is not obstructed, so real phenomena can appear to arise without cessation. Because there is no abiding for the phenomenon without arising and ceasing, the opportunity for real phenomena to abide is not obstructed, so real phenomena can appear to abide.
