65 65 Regarding the method of meditating in this way, the Kagyu tradition says: "Mind and conceptual thought, the three kayas, are inherently co-emergent. By the instructions, they are joined into one, hence it is known as the co-emergent union." It is necessary to practice accordingly. That is, in this conventional truth, there are two types of conventional truth: one that is labeled as a real phenomenon of convention and can actually appear as such, and one that is labeled as a non-real phenomenon, which is merely expressed but cannot actually appear. Among these, beings, in this conventional truth that appears as a real phenomenon, in the realm of terminology, grasping at characteristics such as form, which can appear as if established, is the obscuration of knowledge. And all the thoughts of the afflictive obscurations such as the view of self, which have inverted objects, from beginningless time, due to the power of delusion in relation to that object, such mistaken thoughts arise naturally or involuntarily. The conventional truth of real phenomena is the conventional truth that can appear as if established by the conceptual thought that establishes it. The non-real phenomenon is not the conventional truth that can actually appear, but is merely labeled as a non-real phenomenon. If that which is labeled as a non-real phenomenon were to actually appear as a real thing, then it would not be possible to establish it as a non-real phenomenon, because if it were to become a conventional truth that can actually appear, then it would become the conventional truth of a real phenomenon. Moreover, if one examines closely in the realm of mere terminology, even the expression "non-real phenomenon" is spoken of as a non-real phenomenon due to the dependence on the two, real and non-real. However, non-real is merely the absence of a real thing, and it is difficult to establish it as a phenomenon, because a phenomenon is established in terminology as something that performs the function of grasping its own or a general characteristic. If it is established as a phenomenon that has a function, then it does not become non-real, but becomes a phenomenon of a real thing. Therefore, the minds and conceptual thoughts of all sentient beings are all the nature of phenomena that appear as real phenomena.

Although the truth of conventional reality is itself the nature of being primordially free from all elaborations, nirvana and dharmakaya, that is, the ultimate truth of dharmata, the mind of conceptualization has been mistaken from beginningless time due to the power of delusion. Now, due to external conditions such as the blessings of the guru and the interdependent conditions of one's own accumulation and purification, the deluded aspect is eliminated by the unerring wisdom of hearing, thinking, and meditating on one's own mind or conceptualization. Thus, the mind and conceptualization that appear as entities, the conventional truth, reveal the very nature of being primordially free from all elaborations, nirvana and dharmakaya, the ultimate truth. Therefore, the basis or support for revealing it, or the entity, is none other than one's own mind and conceptualization that arise dependently. There is nothing else to be established or sought. Therefore, the entity of mind and conceptualization itself, in relation to the non-entity that is imputed as a dharma other than that support, such as rabbit horns and the self of a person, and the fact that it is merely dependent and cannot fulfill the function of an entity of interdependent origination, due to the extreme of annihilationism, something that cannot be established as the nature of an entity in name, appears to be able to be established as truly existent. Like the emptiness of emptiness, on the basis or support, or the entity, the nature of being primordially free from elaborations, nirvana, dharmakaya, the ultimate truth, is not revealed. Because, even in name, it is said to be a non-entity, and even if rabbit horns, which cannot appear there, are imputed as a dharma that has a function, it does not become the basis and support for generating the delusion of the two obscurations, such as grasping and clinging, through the way that it can appear to the mind. Therefore, on the basis or support of that itself, after eliminating delusion, the true face of the dharmakaya, which is primordially free from elaborations, cannot be seen. Therefore, if the dharmakaya is not realized from the mind or conceptualization that appears as an entity, it is like chasing a ghost to the east and sending a torma to the west. If one understands well the subtle secret of this key point, then the great Madhyamaka charioteers of Tibet who came later, such as Je Tsongkhapa and his sons, said that all dharmas should be established as emptiness. The dharma to be established is the entity that functions without deceiving in the face of nominal valid cognition.
