33 33 Nowadays, most individuals, after having such experiences, do not see a significant increase in the benefits of realization. Therefore, they abandon this life and persevere in their practice for a few years. In that experience, sometimes reverence and the mind of enlightenment arise, leading to a clear and empty awareness free from concepts. Sometimes reverence and the mind of enlightenment increase, causing agitation from dullness and excitement. Sometimes the good experiences are inexpressible, to the point of forgetting the passage of day and night, even forgetting hunger and thirst. Sometimes, with mindfulness, engaging in virtuous activities becomes easy and effortless, even continuing in dreams, blurring the lines between day and night. Therefore, some become complacent, boasting that they have a good environment for practice. Some individuals, after having such experiences, become influenced by the eight worldly concerns and abandon their practice. Using the excuse of subduing enemies and protecting friends in this life, they outwardly pretend to benefit others by managing monastic residences, presiding over town ceremonies, and subduing spirits. Or they claim to be managing a sangha. In doing so, they think that if the experience does not diminish, they will not lose it, and if it diminishes, they will lose it. Thus, while outwardly pretending to benefit others, they initially maintain the experience, but later the experience fades and they become utterly mundane. After it fades, others will say, "This person was initially a good practitioner, but now has become a sinful actor or a person of the eight worldly concerns," leading to various slanders. For such practitioners, some, because they have committed evil deeds, out of shame, try to cover up their faults with eloquent words and resume their practice. Some, because their own experience has faded, assume that other practitioners are the same. Or, feeling ashamed, they become jealous of other excellent practitioners who accumulate merit. They will say, "In general, practice and practitioners are all false. So-and-so's merit is not as supreme as my sinful actions, and my sinful actions are the most supreme, capable of surpassing the bhumis and paths," and so on, thus creating the evil karma of abandoning the Dharma.

It appears that things are about to happen. Some individuals, upon reaching this level of experience, think that they will not be harmed by being distracted by experiences, and thus accumulate countless wealth through crafts, calculations, medicine, etc., but do not diligently engage in offerings and generosity, especially not offering to the Lama and the Three Jewels, and not serving with body and speech. Also, some individuals, upon reaching this level of experience, although they have diligently meditated for several years, their realization has not significantly improved, so they think that even if they continue to practice, it will be difficult to progress, or even if they do not progress, it is easy to give up practice. Therefore, they do not strive to accumulate merit and purify obscurations for the sake of the Lama and the Three Jewels. In such cases, if one follows the instructions of a qualified Lama and strives to accumulate merit and purify obscurations to improve realization, and accepts the Lama's teachings, even risking one's life to practice, then progress on the path to enlightenment will be very rapid. If one cannot practice in this way, one should still strive to find ways to increase the accumulation of merit in one's own and others' minds and to reduce the causes of obscurations. If, due to bad karma, one develops wrong views and negative actions towards the Dharma and practitioners, one can still, through the grace of the Three Jewels, feel remorse for past actions and take the Lama's words as the standard, confessing and guarding against all physical, verbal, and mental faults in previous virtuous deeds. There is no way that karmic obscurations will not be purified. From now on, even if one were to lose a hundredfold lives immediately, one would not follow evil deeds, but would pray to be blessed to become a fortunate one who can practice the pure view and conduct that pleases the Lord of all the Holy Ones, the venerable Lama, and perform virtuous roots from many aspects, and dedicate these virtues to enlightenment. Like this, can the blessings of the Buddha still enter into someone who commits evil deeds? Because the compassion and activity of the Buddha are inconceivable, and the ways of sentient beings' karma are also inconceivable, the more evil the karma of sentient beings, the more easily the compassion of the Buddha enters. Moreover, the Buddha's compassionate blessing upon us is also because the Buddha first compassionately blessed the Lama, and then the Lama compassionately blessed us.
