The eighth Bodhicitta, the Immovable. The eighth Bodhicitta, the Immovable. The eighth ground is divided into two parts: a brief explanation of the nature of the ground, and a detailed explanation of its qualities. The first part is: In order to repeatedly obtain more merit than before, where one transforms into the nature of non-retrogression, the Immovable is where that great being enters. The bodhisattva of the eighth ground obtains more merit than before, that is, more than the merit of the two accumulations of the seventh ground and below, that is, the most excellent merit. Where one obtains the forbearance of non-arising dharmas, thereby transforming from the wisdom of the Buddha into the nature of non-retrogression, the eighth ground bodhisattva, the Immovable, is where the great being enters. In order to repeatedly obtain more merit than before, like a great ship sailing to the ocean, if it has not encountered the ocean, it needs to be rowed intentionally to move forward; once it encounters it, it is propelled by a great wind and does not need to be rowed intentionally. One day it can reach the ocean, which is what it could not reach in a hundred years by rowing intentionally before. Likewise, after reaching the eighth ground, the merit of reaching the Buddha ground in an instant with spontaneously accomplished wisdom is that the impure seven grounds before, the merit accumulated in hundreds of thousands of kalpas (354b), cannot match the power of this ground. In short, when entering the path, the difference between diligence and non-diligence leads to the difference between the speed of progress on the path, and the difference in qualities is extremely great. The second part is divided into three parts: the qualities of the paramitas and the qualities of the retainers, the way to accomplish the qualities of the Buddha even if one becomes the lord of the three realms, and the way to perfect the Dharma of the Buddha with the ten powers even if samsara ceases. The first part is: This aspiration is extremely pure, and the Buddhas also urge one to arise from cessation. The countless ten great aspirations made by this bodhisattva when he first generated Bodhicitta become extremely pure at this time, so he surpasses with the perfection of aspiration, and is established in this ground as the position of a young prince, obtains the kingship in the ninth ground, and in the tenth ground, like a Chakravartin king, the Buddhas empower him. In this ground, all afflictions and sign-grasping have been abandoned, so one can effortlessly enter the Dharmadhatu, therefore one should not dwell in cessation, and if one interrupts the benefit of others out of season and enters Nirvana, it will cease.

Specifically, the Buddhas urge from that place, saying, 'Our wisdom and power, and the Buddhas' teachings, you do not have those, so strive diligently for them.' etc., urging from prevention, in order to make them accomplish the vast Dharma of the Buddhas. Where should this Nirvana be placed, one wonders? From the *Nyi Nang* (Sun Essence Sutra): 'Then, his Nirvana is not the Nirvana of the Hearers, because his attention is from the arising of Bodhicitta and is abandoned for a long time. Nor is it the Nirvana of the Buddhas (355a), because what should be abandoned by cultivation has not been abandoned. So, what is it?' Generally, there are eight kinds of Nirvana: Nirvana from the severance of virtue after attaining the peak; Nirvana from escaping the lower realms after attaining forbearance; Nirvana from escaping the limbs of meditation after attaining meditation; Nirvana of the Stream-enterer from the eighth existence; Nirvana of the Once-returner from the two existences of the desire realm; Nirvana of the Non-returner from the desire realm; the Nirvana with remainder and without remainder of the Arhats; and Nirvana with intention. Among these, the last, that is, considering the temporary cessation of benefiting others, is established as Nirvana. Thus it is said. Secondly, the mind without attachment does not dwell together with faults, therefore, on the eighth ground, those stains are pacified together with their roots. Although afflictions are exhausted and one becomes the supreme of the three realms, the qualities of the Buddhas are like the sky, boundless, and cannot be fully attained. On the eighth ground, those stains that are the cause of birth in the three realms of samsara are pacified together with their roots. Like light and darkness not coexisting, the sun of non-conceptual wisdom rises, so the mind without attachment to anything does not coexist with faults and afflictions like darkness. All afflictions are exhausted, and because of being free from attachment to the three realms, one becomes the supreme of those, but at that time the qualities of the Buddhas are like the sky, boundless and cannot be fully attained, so one must strive to attain them. Thirdly, although samsara ceases, one will attain the ten powers, and those will
