Because the arising and accumulation of things are completely exhausted, there will be no enjoyment for them in the future. If a giver without discipline falls into the lower realms, will he continue to receive the fruits of generosity? No, he will not. Because such a person, the fruits of generosity given in the past life in the realms of gods and humans, along with the arising fruits and the accumulation of things, as well as the seeds of generosity, are completely exhausted in the realm of the lower realms. Therefore, in the future, in the realm of the lower realms, the intention to practice virtue is very small, so the fruits of generosity will not continuously arise. As it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: When I have the opportunity to practice virtue, but I do not perform virtuous deeds, and all the sufferings of the lower realms are ignorant, what shall I do then? The second point is: When there is freedom and harmony, if one does not hold this as one's own, falling into a precipice and being controlled by others, who can save one from that afterwards? If one lacks discipline, not only will there be no enjoyment in the future, but it will also be very difficult to rise from the lower realms. When one has leisure and endowments, like a hero freed from bondage in a harmonious land, one can freely engage in virtue and live in harmony in the realms of gods and humans. If these beings do not protect themselves from the lower realms, etc., through virtuous conduct such as discipline, they will fall into the precipice of the lower realms like a hero bound by iron chains and abandoned in a mountain valley. Due to the control of karma and afflictions, they will fall into the lower realms, so who can save them from the lower realms afterwards? Because the fruits of bad karma are not exhausted, it is impossible to forcibly liberate oneself, and they will not strive to liberate themselves from there. Even if they are born in the human realm, they will have short lives and will not engage in virtuous deeds. As it is said in the Bodhicharyavatara: Even a single moment of evil deeds can cause one to dwell in Avici for an eon. What need is there to mention that one will not go to the happy realms with the sins accumulated in beginningless samsara? Having experienced only that much, one will not be liberated, but while experiencing this, other sins will greatly increase. The reason for speaking about discipline after generosity is that discipline is shown to be the basis of all qualities. Noble beings

It is pointed out as the cause of higher rebirth and definite goodness. First, therefore, the Victorious One, after speaking of generosity, speaks of the words that follow the precepts. After the Victorious One speaks of generosity, the fruit of generosity increases, which follows the precepts, so the words of the precepts are praised. Because breaking the precepts will waste the fruit of generosity and produce many faults. Second, when merit increases in the field of precepts, the enjoyment of the fruit will not be cut off. When the seeds of generosity and so on are sown in the field of precepts, when merit increases, the enjoyment of the fruit will not be cut off (59a), because that is the basis of merit. Third, for ordinary beings and hearers, and those who are certain of themselves in self-enlightenment, and the definite good of bodhisattvas, and the cause of higher rebirth, there is nothing better than precepts. For ordinary beings and hearers, and those who are certain of themselves in self-enlightenment, and the definite good of bodhisattvas, and the cause of higher rebirth, there is nothing better than precepts, because the cause of both is the supreme precepts. Second, just as the sea is with a corpse, just as auspiciousness is with an inauspicious black woman. Thus, the great being dominated by precepts does not want to be with the immoral. Thus, the great being dominated by perfect precepts dwells here, not wanting to be with the immoral, just as the great sea does not dwell with a corpse for one night, just as auspiciousness does not dwell with an inauspicious black woman. Third, by whom, what, and for whom is abandoned, if there is attachment to the three, then this precept is said to be the other shore of the world. Emptiness with attachment to the three is transcendence. By whom, with what, for what sentient being is abandonment practiced, if there is attachment to the reality of the three, then this precept is the other shore of the world, as it is said in the sutra. This precept is held by Prajnaparamita, and emptiness with attachment to the three wheels is the other shore of transcendence. Third
