Thus, the bodhichitta that is devoid of abandonment and attainment, possessing the essence of the Sugata's wisdom, although abiding in one's own continuum, is bound by the artificial box. How can one meditate while obscuring the meaning of the essence? On the nature of reality that is rootless and devoid of self-nature, one falsely imputes knowable things as being without arising and ceasing. Just as one transforms the formless into form, one deviates from the true meaning, how deluded! Some, after cutting off the distractions of memory and thought, defile the meditation on emptiness with contrived clinging to antidotes. They exhaust themselves by meditating with forced suppression, which becomes an obstacle to the entry of karmic winds into the life force. Some, without seeing the true nature of reality, are deceived by the words of reality and become non-committal. In the ignorance where memory and thought are hidden, they cling to it as the nature of meditation, which is extremely mistaken. Some, with the intellect that understands the flow of memory as mind, conceptualize outside the distractions of memory and thought. With the meditation that counts arising and ceasing, even if they meditate for a hundred years, they will wander in the wheel of delusion. Most often, effort and striving become enemies, and when they meditate, various uncomfortable pains arise. If they do not meditate, they do not recognize their own nature and wander in delusion. Thus, they also deviate from the unadorned true meaning. Alas! All of these do not transcend the realm of ordinary beings. Therefore, now, when one realizes that the mind of both meditating and not meditating is a false conceptualization, one should leave the present mind without alteration. Furthermore, one should abandon the scattering of seeking with fabricated intellect, and all of letting go, abiding, and contrived clinging. In this direct awareness, one should disregard and let it be free, without adding, subtracting, accepting, or rejecting, and abide in its own state. At that time, whatever conceptual thoughts of signs may arise, one should not look at what arises, but recognize the one who arises. Just as one drives a stake into the ground, it is crucial to maintain self-control of awareness. Although one abides in the natural state of being as it is, without coming, going, increasing, or decreasing, if one does not escape from the box of clinging to antidotes, one will err into the realm of intellectual measurement. Therefore, all the terms of view, meditation, and conduct are fetters of the intellect on the true meaning. The antidotes of memory, holding, and effort dissolve into the dharmadhatu, possessing the conduct of non-distraction and non-non-distraction, possessing the freedom of non-gathering, non-abandoning, and non-abiding, the dharmadhatu that transcends all the elaborations of effort and striving, the great treasure that is without thought and thinker, the knowledge that from the beginning is the Buddha, is the nature of reality where speech is already exhausted, the wheel.
