The eight-branch explanation of Karma from the Phurba Tantra, clarifying the meaning of the Tantra. The eight-branch explanation of Karma from the Phurba Tantra, clarifying the meaning of the Tantra. The eight-branch explanation of Karma from the Phurba Tantra is present. The secret treasury of all Buddhas, abiding in the symbolic meaning of the Vajra, the essence of immovable, true bliss, relying on the Vajra of speech at the heart's core. Here, in the ancient Karma scriptures, the eight branches are said to have vast meaning, serving as the preliminary for all Karma and Terma rituals, therefore explaining their meaning. First, the branch of prostration is: Vajra Master, Buddha Glorious, abiding in the three times, I prostrate. Thus, that which is the supreme, unchanging, sacred wisdom of all Tathagatas is undivided by all conventional dharmas and indestructible. The Tantra says: Vajra is called indivisible. And in the Vajravidāraṇa it also says: Unbreakable, indestructible, true, firm, etc., thus teaching the seven qualities of the Vajra. Such is the nature of the Vajra of meaning, which is symbolized, therefore in all Mantra scriptures it is known as Vajrayana, Vajra activity, Vajra conduct, Vajra mudra, Vajra wisdom, and Vajra samaya, etc. In order to understand the meaning of these without error, because the name of the Dharma is attached to the individual, it is Vajra, and the teacher who is skilled in leading others to that state. Such a Lama is the essence of all Buddhas, and from the student's own perspective, is even more supreme than the Buddha and of greater kindness, therefore it is mentioned in terms of the name of excellence as Glorious. The Tantra says: At the time of the name empowerment, it should be endowed with the words Glorious and Vajra. Thus it is. The Vajra Master is the essence of all Buddhas of the three times, and from the aspect of compassion without increase or decrease, prostration is made to that support with the words abiding in the three times. Mañjuśrī says: The best of the Lamas is worthy of prostration. The second branch is: To the field of relying on the Three Jewels, I take refuge with a non-dual mind. Thus, the Three Jewels are the stage of the path.

Therefore, the supreme field of merit to be relied upon and approached is unsurpassed. From the perspective of taking refuge, since refuge is taken with the power of the wisdom of suchness that realizes the qualities of abandonment and realization of those (referring to the field of merit) in one's own mindstream, the word "non-dual" is added. It is a great mistake to call this the "field of the teacher." Why is that? Because the Buddha can be a teacher, but the Dharma and Sangha are not teachers. As it is said: The unsurpassed teacher is the precious Buddha, the unsurpassed protector is the precious Dharma, the unsurpassed guide is the precious Sangha. With just this much, one should recognize the activities of the Three Jewels. The third branch is: Actual offerings and mentally created transformations, please accept these pure offerings. Among these, actual offerings are finite, and mentally created transformations are infinite. The former is pure material, and the latter is the same as the offering clouds of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, offered with the power of completely pure samadhi, so it is called pure offerings. The fourth branch is: Obstacles that cut off the river of accomplishment, all misdeeds I confess. Thus, the two types of accomplishments that can be obtained in the Vajrayana path are arranged as tangible ornaments. Like this, the great obstacle that cuts off the river of accomplishment is the transgression of vows and commitments through the three doors of body, speech, and mind. As it is said in the Purba Nirvana Sutra: If one does not abide by the vows, the seed is burned by fire, like a palm tree with its head cut off, fruitless and destroyed. Like the breaking of vows, no matter how much one strives to practice the generation and completion stages, it is like a palm tree with its head cut off, no matter how much one strives, it will not arise, therefore, one must rely on the key of the four powers to confess. The fifth branch is: The pure Dharma of the ten directions and three wheels, I rejoice in the practice without attachment. Like this, the ten directions, such as the east, are with objects of focus, and mutually and vertically dependent on each other, relying on conceptualization to be falsely established, therefore, with profound discriminating wisdom, one understands the suchness of directionless self-nature, similarly, for self, others, and both, the wheel of focus
