Chapter Forty-Nine: Refuting Wrong Notions with Discourses Based on the Four Reliances. Chapter Forty-Nine: Refuting Wrong Notions with Discourses Based on the Four Reliances. Titled "Refuting Wrong Notions with Discourses Based on the Four Reliances." Homage to Vajragarbha! From Rigpa Rangshar: To dispel the wrong notions of those who think that reality transcends mind, who doubt the naturally pure dharma, and who, without distinguishing between definitive and provisional meanings, cling to cause and effect, here are explained the twelve great vajra laughs and the eight great statements elucidating cause and effect. First, the twelve great vajra laughs explain the meaning of dharmata transcending mind by introducing it simultaneously to the teacher and the assembly. At the very moment of such explanation, the vajra laughter of victory arises from the very act of explaining and the thing being explained, both of which are unestablished in their own nature, within the expanse of dharmata. As it says in the "Namasangiti": "Laughter, haha, is surely proclaimed; hihi is proclaimed, causing terror; great laughter, a great roar; the vajra laughter is greatly proclaimed." Second, the meaning of the eight great statements is that when dharmata is realized, the reasons why good and evil are unestablished in their essence are illustrated with examples. For instance, a being with the eight aggregates of consciousness who simultaneously kills all sentient beings in the three realms is no different from one who performs virtuous deeds. This does not mean that cause and effect are severed. Because good and evil are created by conceptual thought, phenomena follow cause and effect. Regarding the ways of purifying karma, there are three: purification through experience, purification through antidotes, and purification through confession. When following the ultimate truth of dharmata, all previous karma is purified through realization, which is the meaning expressed here. In the five skandhas and the eight aggregates, because the habitual tendencies left by previous actions on the alaya are exhausted, there is no basis for good and evil. As it says in the Madhyamaka: "Because of that, sin and merit, both are conceptual." Just as in this way, the reason for non-establishment in the nature of dharmata is also stated in the Sutra of the Transference of Existence of the Noble One: "The eye does not see forms."

We. The mind does not perceive phenomena, this is the ultimate truth, the world cannot fathom it. (End of quote) Thus, when not realized, taking killing as an example, what is killed is the aggregate of name and form, what kills is the aggregate of consciousness, the understanding of its karmic flow as a connection is the aggregate of feeling, the all-pervading consciousness aggregate is the origin. Because of these, suffering is accumulated later. Such five aggregates are not always together with the Dharma nature, so when emptiness is realized, past sins cannot harm, and the seeds for future lives are exhausted. When asked, "Venerable, if one commits sins after realizing emptiness, is there harm?" He replied, "If emptiness is realized, there is no need to commit sins." This is an example. Similarly, when Dharma nature is realized, because the path truth is abandoned, both the virtue and the happiness of the virtuous result based on the eight consciousness aggregates are absent, so sentient beings'

Bound by the tight knots of negation, affirmation, doubt, acceptance, rejection, and so on, the scriptures are not binding. Until the Dharma-eye, free from dust, is attained, measuring the great secret words of definitive meaning with the measure of ordinary people will lead to the lower realms through the path of the ninth root downfall. In the condensed version of the 'Arya Manjushri-Namasamgiti,' it says: 'Some foolish people do not understand the Tathagata's skillful means, nor do they comprehend their meaning. They say of my ambiguous words, "This is permissible, this is not permissible." Such people abandon the holy Dharma and slander the Tathagata. Therefore, they are said to be beings of hell.' Maitreya, in the future final age, in the last five hundred years of the final age, there will be monks, nuns, laymen, and laywomen who claim to be Bodhisattvas, who were formerly non-Buddhists. Due to the power of their aspirations, they will ordain in the well-spoken teachings and Vinaya of the Tathagata, but will practice only one-sidedly, longing for relatives, attached to gain and honor, stingy towards their families, disrupting families, ugly in appearance, fond of the inferior, with uneasy minds, unknown, of low birth, completely attached to possessions, devoid of all food that brings comfort in the Dharma, extremely distant from the food of Samadhi, dwelling in deceit and cunning, saying one thing and doing another. Though they do not know, they say, 'We possess knowledge.' Though they are not skilled, they say, 'We are skilled.' And so on. Maitreya, for the sake of benefiting sentient beings, I go to worlds in the ten directions as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, and there I teach the Dharma to sentient beings according to their inclinations. Those who claim to be Bodhisattvas, wild Bodhisattvas, slander Bodhisattvas, speak falsely, and have little learning, discriminate against this, which is not completely separated by my two Bodhis (wisdom and skillful means), saying, 'This a Bodhisattva should learn; this a Bodhisattva should not learn.' With such a mind, they slander the Tathagata and abandon the Dharma.
