Regarding the later vows: If the initial practitioner does not generate diligence, how can one realize the profound meaning? Therefore, as harm increases, the cause and effect of harm arise from oneself, carefully examine and contemplate, and for the benefit of patience gained, cultivate joy. The faults of associating with the clamorous demons, sinful companions, and childish partners will cause the precepts to be broken, many vows to be destroyed, the Dharma to decline, and to be scolded by people. Therefore, be as cautious as protecting a wound, put the hat of shame on yourself, and even be afraid of rash and sarcastic words, get used to guarding mindfulness. Even if you live in solitude, you will be deceived by sleep and laziness, like a bill for paying taxes on vows, and you will deceive yourself. Do not relax for a moment from the demon of laziness, and guard it with the power of diligence. Desires are a great ruin, accumulating like bees, but making oneself poor. Guarding it like a treasure trove of hungry ghosts, but feeling tired. Increasing it with cunning, but becoming a thief. Friendship and enmity, declining from great wealth, the face of shame is damaged in an instant, wandering on the cliff of bad reputation, therefore, observe its nature well and seek contentment. Similarly, the faults of anger are infinite, the beautiful face will also lose its luster, and love from the depths of the heart will gradually drift away, harsh words like sharp thorns attract enemies. This trick of mutual bondage and beating can quickly destroy even the rule of a king, let alone the invisible tree of virtue, escape from the fire that burns in an instant. Merely being attached to something will take away the life of liberation, the family, and the monasteries, villages, lands, and wealth that increase attachment and aversion, and even feel very painful for parents and relatives. Associating with what will diminish virtue and manifest the seeds of evil destinies, what else is more like an enemy than this? Look at the bondage of gold and shackles as the same. Always increasing stinginess and strife, it is obvious that wealth shared with others, such as thieves, is meaningless, do you see the wealth you have accumulated being enjoyed by others? Here, what is the merit of being accustomed to giving?
