The Forty-Seventh Chapter of the Collection of Discourses: The Discourse on Mandala Offerings, A Cloud of Merit. Chapter Forty-Seventh of the Collection of Discourses: The Discourse on Mandala Offerings, A Cloud of Merit. Named the Discourse on Mandala Offerings, A Cloud of Merit. The nature of the Three Jewels is Bodhicitta. The essence of Bodhicitta is emptiness. Emptiness is the original reality that possesses all perfections. I prostrate to the great non-conceptual union. Furthermore, among the paths traversed by all Sugatas of the three times, known as the five paths, the practice of extensively engaging in the accumulation of merit and wisdom is included in the category of the path of accumulation. I will briefly explain the arrangement of the mandala. In general, all phenomena encompassed by samsara and nirvana abide in the nature of the three: ground, path, and result. The ground is the essence of the Sugata, the realm of sentient beings, which is the blueprint for the three: samsara, nirvana, and the path. This is generated and developed by the force of the two accumulations, and when the activities of abandonment and realization are perfected, it is accomplished as the name of manifest enlightenment. As stated in the Sutra of Dense Array: "The stainless ground, through merit, becomes the Thus-Gone One. Realizing and seeing it, is yoga, fearless yoga." Therefore, in order to manifest the state of the two-fold purity of the result, accumulating the union of merit and wisdom at the time of the path is the perfection of skillful means. As stated in the Discourse on Accumulations by the glorious protector Vasubandhu: "Thus, merit and wisdom, their nature filled with water, skillfully guide beings to the single path of liberation, abiding in the palm of the hand of enlightenment." Therefore, all accumulations of merit are summarized within the seven branches. Among these, what becomes the basis for the uncommon path is the cloud of offerings of the Buddha-fields. As stated in the scripture: "In all Buddha-fields, completely filling the three thousand worlds, offering with adornments of desirable qualities, perfects the wisdom of the Buddhas." In general, for all virtuous and meritorious actions, the preliminary is the mind of enlightenment, the main part is without objectification, and the conclusion is the dedication to enlightenment. Having the three supreme qualities as the basis, the actual practice of the mandala ritual includes the explanation of the meaning of the words, the purification and empowerment, and the order of the ritual.

From the determination of the three modes of expression, the meaning of the sound is: According to the outer characteristic vehicle, "Maṇḍa (Tibetan: མཎྜ), which means essence or mandala. La (Tibetan: ལ), is to take and hold, that is, in order to accomplish the truth of the path of cessation, the kingdom of the sacred Dharma, or in order to hold the foundation, accumulate great meritorious deeds and become the proximate cause of bestowing manifest glory, hence the name. If expressed according to the inner secret fruit vehicle, it is said in the Wisdom Bindu: 'The letter Ma (Tibetan: མ་) is said to be the petal, the letter Ṇa (Tibetan: ཎ) is remembered as the heart, the letter Ḍa (Tibetan: ཌ) is the stamen, the letter La (Tibetan: ལ) is also like that.' Just like the stamen of a lotus flower on the outside, the space of Vajrayogini on the inside, the secret is that the Vajra enjoys all perfections in that place, completing the two accumulations of merit and wisdom, in the space of the great clear light Madhyamaka that is free from all elaborations, controlling the karma winds of the single taste of grasping and being grasped, forcibly untying the twenty-one knots of the binding channels, etc., manifesting the qualities of the ten grounds and five paths, exhausting all suffering in the Dharmadhatu, and uniting with the wisdom of great bliss, therefore it is called a mandala. As it is said in the tantra: 'Completing the accumulation of merit and wisdom, the self-aware mandala without beginning or end, the form of the wheel radiating four wisdoms.' So it is. Pure union, in general, the nature of the six perfections is the basis or substance of all dharmas, the basis of all the qualities of the grounds and paths, therefore it is considered the most sacred conduct of the princes, as it is said in the 'Friendly Epistle': 'Giving, ethics, patience, diligence, meditation, and likewise, wisdom, immeasurable perfections. These are the treasures of the king, the other shore of the ocean of existence, the perfection, the power of the victorious ones.' Thus, like Dharma, wealth, fearlessness, are the three types of giving; abandoning misdeeds, accumulating virtues, benefiting sentient beings, are the three types of ethics; patience that does not feel any aversion to harm, patience that endures all hardships for the sake of the Dharma, patience that does not fear profound emptiness, are the three types of patience; the firm and excellent thought is the armor of diligence; without weariness in benefiting others, is the union of
