Sa! In this life and the next, one experiences much suffering. Desiring wealth, one takes what is not given. The poor buy at high prices. In the end, one's reputation is greatly diminished. One's body and possessions are seized by others. Some deeds done with lies and slander may succeed for a time, but not in the end. Like the lie of a demon bird that makes itself a place of ill omen. For a person who generates evil thoughts, even if they have merit like a mountain, it will immediately decline. Look at my brother, the king. That wrong views diminish one's own glory is not known by others, like a small kingdom waging war against Ajatashatru. Even if beings do not abide in the Dharma, they should still serve their parents. The Buddha said that this is the only ladder to ascend to the heavens. Do not cause beggars to feel ashamed. If you do, you exhaust the eternal treasury. Giving only benefits the next life. Even if you bury it, it will not increase. If it is your turn to beg, with impatient and arrogant wisdom, when serving the Buddha, because the poor did not receive their hope, they became angry with the teacher, thinking, 'If I become king, I will cut off their heads,' like one's own head being cut off by a chariot wheel. Do not do evil! Because the mind is poison, the intention to harm will come upon oneself. Be sure to pay the taxes that are due. If you are able but do not pay, because the king's treasury is empty, you should fear the consequences. Enjoyment that people cannot obtain through effort arises from thinking of the heavenly realms. That is the power of merit! Look at those of bad lineage who become kings. Therefore, from virtuous thoughts, accumulate all merit. It is better to accumulate merit for one day than to labor for a hundred years. This treatise on advice to the people, which is the second chapter, was written by the emanation of Khyentse, the sprout of the Victorious One, in glorious Padma Odling. The sixth chapter of the Collection of Discourses is complete. The sixth chapter of the Collection of Discourses, a treatise on the words conveyed to the king and the people, is the medicine that heals the world.
