Collected Works of Tulkou Tongdrup JKTT12 A Summary of the Four Lamps of Yumo A Summary of the Four Lamps of Yumo A Summary of the Four Lamps of Yumo Emaho! E-Vam, I respectfully prostrate to the indivisibility of bliss and emptiness, method and wisdom. To the glorious Kalachakra (Wheel of Time) , the embodiment of the four kayas (bodies of a Buddha) , To the glorious Lama (spiritual teacher), the embodiment of Kalachakra, I constantly prostrate with reverence through my three doors (body, speech, and mind), I will briefly write a summary of the meaning of the four lamps. Briefly, there are four here: The instruction to recognize the various external appearances as the empty form with Mahamudra (great seal) and its object, is the Lamp of Emptiness (1); The instruction to recognize the various internal consciousnesses as the great compassion of clear light and the Dharmakaya (body of truth) without object, is the Lamp of Clear Light (2); The instruction to recognize the union of these two as the great unchanging wisdom, is the Lamp of Union (3); The instruction to recognize the result of the path of union as the supreme siddhi (accomplishment) of Mahamudra, is the Lamp of Mahamudra (4). The first (emptiness) has three parts: the preliminary instructions, the main part, and the subsequent instructions. The first has two parts: praise and offering, and the vow to explain (the mantra). The first has two parts: praise of the Lama (who) and the Yidam (conceptual). The second has three parts: Generally showing the path of the result, the secret mantra Vajrayana (diamond vehicle), specifically explaining the path of the non-dual tantra, and summarizing the meaning of these (as such). The first has five parts: The secret mantra vehicle (how) 1. Clearly showing the special path, 2. The ultimate of all vehicles, 3. The essence of the teachings of all Buddhas, 4. Liberation through special means, 5. The basis of the secret (what) mantra emptiness and compassion tantra, E-Vam bliss and emptiness. The second has two parts: Refuting the (that) emptiness that does not turn into the path of the complete Buddha, and showing the meditation on the emptiness that turns into the path. That has two parts: Briefly showing (then the path) and explaining in detail. That has four parts: The first verse showing the clear empty form with the object of the Mahamudra that turns into the path of the omniscient Buddha, and explaining the meaning of the second, third, and fourth verses in detail. The first has five parts: The meaning of the Mahamudra, and its accordance with illusion, and its sky. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is the same as..., it appears like an empty image of consciousness, and like an image in a mirror. The first part has three points: (regarding) manifestation, (mudra) explanation, (thus) summary. The second part has two points: the mudra can show the appearance of the three realms, 1. and it appears as a form that does not emit immaculate electric light. The third part has four points: the mudra is without distinction between inside and outside, it is an empty image that is separate from objects, it initially appears in the sky (abiding on the ground), it merely shows the appearance of one's own mind as it is on the path. The fourth part has three points: the mudra is the nature of mind and mental events, it can transform the thoughts of many beings into the path, it appears as one and also appears as many forms. The third part has five points: by the virtue of composing (emptiness) instructions, may all beings be dedicated to attaining the Vajradhara state; this instruction is in accordance with the tantra commentary (thus), in accordance with the words of the guru, and not in accordance with other treatises; the reason why the tantra commentary and the guru's (some previous) instructions (therefore) do not agree with inferior treatises; and this instruction, the essence of the teachings, should be kept secret and not shown to the dull-witted and those with wrong views; and relying on the tantra commentary and the kindness of the (my) guru, the instructions on transforming emptiness into the path are explained. Auspicious! The second instruction (light) has three parts: the preliminary, the main part, and the subsequent part of the instruction. The first part has two points: praise and offering (compassion), and promising to explain (light). The second part has three points: general, extensive, and summary. The first part has two points: general (regarding light) manifestation, and clearly manifesting by preventing extremes. The second part has three points: explaining light as the basis, path, and result. The first part has four points: the essence of mind is non-conceptual, its support (another) is the co-emergent object, its (another) metaphor is the melted bliss co-emergent, its (another) mount is the wind light. The first part has three points: general (from it) manifestation, detailed explanation of the types of names, summary of meaning (regarding the tantra). The second part has three points: without relying on the path of light (another mainly) one cannot attain complete enlightenment through other means, explaining the essence and qualities of the path of light, and explaining that one should not practice other divergent paths besides the path of light. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
