The Essence of Immortal Self-Arising, Condensed into the Core of Meditation and Recitation, the Nectar of Accomplishing Life as Vajra. The Essence of Immortal Self-Arising, Condensed into the Core of Meditation and Recitation, the Nectar of Accomplishing Life as Vajra. This is the practice called "The Essence of Immortal Self-Arising, Condensed into the Core of Meditation and Recitation, the Nectar of Accomplishing Life as Vajra." Om, may there be well-being, may there be accomplishment). The great and extraordinary teacher Śāntideva, in his Compendium of Bodhisattva Trainings, said: "In order to protect from all fears, these fifty-seven letters, which have great power to remember limitless lifetimes, arising from the treasury of mantra holders, should also be added here." Thus, it is said to be the supreme of all body-protecting mantras. Furthermore, regarding this profound instruction widely known as the "Unpleasant Sound of Immortal Self-Arising," there are different lineages of long and short transmissions. Even within the former, there are many slight differences in history, mantras, and visualizations. Here, for the time being, I will briefly summarize the practices I have received from my own lama into two methods. First, if one primarily engages in life-accomplishment practice, one should sit comfortably on a cushion in the posture of meditation before the crow's call at dawn. Refuge, bodhicitta, and the four immeasurables are generally performed as preliminaries. Om, purity of nature, all dharmas, purity of nature, I). From emptiness, on top of an iron eight-petaled lotus, one instantly transforms into the protector Amitāyus, with a red body, one face, and two arms in meditative equipoise, holding a long-life vase filled with immortal nectar. Adorned with all silk and jewel ornaments, with a backdrop of various rays of light. Seated in the vajra posture. Visualize the form as appearing but without inherent existence. On a lotus and moon seat at the crown of the head, Amitāyus identical to oneself, blazing with the splendor of the marks and signs of perfection. From the crown of one's head to the secret place, there is an iron life-channel as thick as an arrow shaft, filled with red and green life-wind. On the four sides outside the channel, the mantra syllables are like drops of nectar, and in the center is one's own mind.

Its essence is a blue Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, literal Chinese meaning: 吽), blazing with light. By respectfully prostrating to Amitāyus on the crown of the head, light radiates from the heart in all ten directions. The essence of one's own diminished life force and the four elements, all the life, merit, wealth, wisdom, and qualities of both mundane and supramundane realms, are gathered and enter the vase in the hand. The stream of nectar that melts and flows down from the aperture of Brahmā on the crown of the head fills the entire body, especially the central channel, purifying the fear of untimely death, and attaining the accomplishment of immortal life. Recite and contemplate thus. Namo Buddhāya, Namo Dharmāya, Namah Sangāya. Tadyathā: Iṭṭe, Vaṭe, Naṭe, Ku Naṭe, Ṭakke, Ṭhake, Ṭha Rakṣa, Uru Mati, Ruru Mati, Ruru Hilli Milli, Sabba Jā, Dupa Dagga, Nama Sabla, Samma Samujñāni, Siñcantu Me Manta Pāda Svāhā. This Iṭṭe mantra has fifty-seven letters. After reciting it a hundred times or as much as possible, interspersed with other offerings and praises, finally, with this merit, may I quickly attain the deathless vidyādhara state. And so forth, dedicate the merit, make aspirations, and recite auspicious words. Secondly, if the main focus is on protection, taking refuge during the time of samsara and cultivating the four immeasurables as preliminaries. One's own mind remains in its ordinary state, and in the center of the four-petaled white lotus in the heart, the essence of mind, a blue Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, literal Chinese meaning: 吽) radiates light. Offerings are made to the noble ones, and the benefit of sentient beings is accomplished. The life and merit of the vidyādharas of gods and humans, the blessings and power of the compassion of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and all the essence of samsara and nirvana are invoked and dissolve into the Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, literal Chinese meaning: 吽). From this complete transformation, one's own body instantaneously becomes a five-pronged vajra of meteoric iron standing upright, and the fire of wisdom blazing from the vajra burns all unfavorable forces. In the center of the empty core, one's own mind, a blue Hūṃ (Tibetan: ཧཱུྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari: हूँ, Romanized Sanskrit: hūṃ, literal Chinese meaning: 吽) situated on the sun disc, radiates immaculate light of various colors, surrounded by a white mantra garland circling clockwise, from which light radiates. Invoking all the blessings, power, and splendor of the root and lineage gurus, yidams, heroes, ḍākinīs, dharma protectors, and guardians, as well as the life, glory, merit, and radiance of all sentient beings in the three realms.
