Thus, having generated the mind [of enlightenment], the first of the ten practices for taking practice to heart is: practice.

Then, why is that? After asking this, the reason is explained. Now, just like this, in this situation, even the Bodhisattva is nominally designated. Why is that? Because the nature of conventional truth is self-emptiness. Like this, the emptiness of each self-nature, the form of conventional truth is not empty of others. Moreover, it is also the emptiness of each self-nature, it is the form of emptiness. This passage explains the inseparability of appearance and emptiness in conventional truth, and the same should be understood for the subsequent ones. Then, in the sixth line, it says it is just a name. Etc., with names such as Bodhi and Bodhisattva, all those mentioned above are merely called names in conventional truth, but they are not established as truly existent in ultimate truth. This is the concluding statement. To this, some people think like this: If Bodhisattvas and forms, etc., are empty of nature and do not exist like rabbit horns, they should not appear. In nature, forms, etc., are not like that. Thinking like this, this is also like an illusion. Etc., using the example of illusion to explain, the illusions of horses and elephants, etc., created by illusionists, although they are not the nature of horses and elephants, etc., they appear as the images of horses and elephants, etc., which is similar. This is the concluding statement. This is what the "Great Commentary on the Hundred Thousand Verses" says. Illusion is nominally designated, so it is just a name. If we consider the characteristics of formless phenomena such as consciousness, etc., because it is not a form, it is not in a place, therefore it does not exist. Seeing illusion, that is, the consciousness that grasps it, exists, but because it is not true, it is inverted. Then, in the first line, it says: The great one does not discriminate anything. Dharma starts from there, and around five and a half lines later, it says: It is expressed in conventional terms. Etc., it explains the reason why it cannot be truly seen, because the names and characteristics of each dharma are distinguished, so it does not exist in a true way, but is merely suddenly designated as names and expressions by ordinary people, and it does not exist in ultimate truth. This is the concluding statement. This is what the "Great Commentary on the Hundred Thousand Verses" says. Then, starting from the half of the third line, completely distinguish. Etc., these explain the meaning.

As it is, it shows that the clinging to names must be abandoned. In the Condensed Eight Thousand Verses, it says: "If the distinctions of truth are removed, the Prajñāpāramitā, the Buddha, the Tathāgata, and the Bodhisattvas, are said to be merely names. This is to prevent the meaning of words, not to prevent things." It is said. Then, after four lines have passed, "Without an object," etc., it is said that the heretics have shown in various ways that the Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas, who have realized the selflessness of persons, understand it as non-existent. As an example, the Bodhisattvas do not see the Bodhi and the Buddhas, as well as the Prajñāpāramitā, in the ultimate truth. The Hundred Thousand Annotations says that it means that in profound Samādhi, nothing is distinguished. Then, after one page has passed, "The Bodhisattva is also not seen," etc., these are to eliminate the distinctions of existence. In the Condensed Eight Thousand Verses, it says: "I have not seen the Bodhisattva, etc. The Blessed One has prevented the illusion of distinguishing things." It is in accordance with what is said. Then, after four and a half lines have passed, the great Bodhisattva is extremely superior, holding emptiness, and the wisdom of the mind overcomes it. Then, in one line, it shows the great nature of the prince who abides in the practice of no object. Śāradvatīputra, among the noble Śrāvakas, there is no one more wise than the son of Maudgalyāyana, just like that. Then, after six and a half lines have passed, "Wisdom is not like that," which shows the reason why wisdom is now transformed into something special. Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas focus on their own benefit, while Bodhisattvas focus on the benefit of sentient beings, and therefore abide in excellence. The Hundred Thousand Annotations says. Then, one line says, "Subduing and abiding," etc., which shows that wisdom is even more special. Similarly, everything, including the east, should be combined in this way. The Hundred Thousand Annotations says. Then, after four pages and four lines have passed, Śāradvatīputra, in order to eliminate the doubt of some people in that assembly, the ultimate truth
