Drizzling rain always arrives first in the human world, and auspicious snow is especially generous to hills and valleys. Fish chimes, drums, and bells alternate, echoing in the lofty *āraṇya* (monastery). Among hemp leaves, chickens, and dogs, one can occasionally see old farmers in the countryside. High ground always receives more sunlight, and plants thrive as a result; deep streams naturally contain ice springs, and the spring water gurgles. The elephant seems to be lying there, quiet and long-lived; the benevolent see it and call it benevolence. The divine dragon seems to be kept, living happily in the water; the wise see it and call it wisdom. How are the verdant pines and eastern ridges? Can the abundant spring waters and southern rivers be crossed by boat? The bronze pagoda comes from Yanjing (Beijing), along with various dragon banners and phoenix embroideries; the stone pagoda flies from Mount Emei, unafraid of the bird paths. Those who dig roads and dredge waterways, wood may lead to Chang'an (Shaanxi Province), and stone can also be used to transport water. Truly, it is a great miracle! Fields crisscross, wells are neatly arranged, and even if drought demons (*旱魃*) are encountered, there is no need to worry. The *stūpa* (Buddhist shrine) is round, facing the lonely pagoda wheel, appearing even more solemn. Below Qinglong Rock, there is no place to set foot; above Qingyang Mountain, there is no sky to climb. The *paṇḍu-śilā* (yellow rock) is still there, and persimmons will fly again. Where did Xiangyan (Zen monk of the Tang Dynasty) go? For whom is the bell stone hung? The Buddha's sun and the sun of transformation shine together, white clouds and Dharma clouds rise together. Imperial edicts arrive frequently, and the songs of cowherds are often heard. The lion string is played every day, and heavenly flowers flutter down; the whale's sound roars in the middle of the night, and human dreams are broken at the third watch. Forgetting the tricks, one naturally forgets external things; why must one have the nature of the sea to appreciate seagulls? Taming it is for better taming and grazing cattle. It is the season of gentle breeze, and the pond is full of lotus flowers. Who says there are ten trillion lotus suburbs? In the moonlit, quiet autumn wind, one forgets that this is the ancient Tanxi. Below are the city walls, and Zhengzhou (Henan Province) emerges from the Cao Gate. The bell sound of the upper realm is heard by those who have the affinity, as if in the clouds, faintly visible the appearance of heaven. The spirit is happy, and a pot of wine can satisfy; the vision is broad, and the thousands of islands and mountains can be seen. This is the beauty of the mountains and rivers! Secretly establishing the purpose, the Weiyang sect is known for this. This is the cave of the Dharma King, the nest of the lion, the place where Little Śākyamuni (referring to Weishan Lingyou) removed the dust from his eyes, the place where Li Junrong recognized the mud in the thorns. Paying homage from afar, going to Nanyang, supporting disciples, and assisting in the Dharma, the little servant of the Linji sect comes from Xijiang (Jiangxi Province), once conveying words for him. The iron rod Zhou Jingang must also pass east and west. Liu Tiemo is called the old cow. Deng Yinfeng should not say that he did not speak, Yunyan (Tansheng) has been teaching the true Dharma for thousands of years. The five schools of Dongshan (Liangjie) are unified into one, not sparing straw sandals, those who come here, treat the sick as sick, and treat the healthy as healthy. Daowu Zongzhi, falling on sound and color, or not falling on sound and color? That is Shushan (Kuangren) has worms in the rice. Shishuang (Qingzhu) and others as rice heads, two years are the same spring. Jiashan (Shanhui) serves as the *典座* (chief cook), Lingshan (Hui Shang) meets Hanshan and Shide. The ancient Buddha is called Xuefeng (Yicun), preaching the Dharma for forty years, and disciples often number in the thousands, the Dharma lineage is infinitely derived, and it is difficult to list all the outstanding ones. Since then, banners and flags have experienced thousands of years, and the heroic spirits are like hemp and millet. Probably because the generals and ministers who have left home cannot do everything, the Buddhas who practice Zen do not disdain everything, and the great sage of the West, Nifu (Confucius), also humbly retreats." ], "english_translations": [ "English version:", "The indigenous Mahayana Buddhist atmosphere of eastern America, with blue-eyed monks arriving in the Liang Dynasty (502-557), selecting officials, selecting Buddhas, and passing the examinations. They embrace emptiness, abandoning children and relatives, which is precisely Shakyamuni's great filial piety. The people of Wu (present-day southern Jiangsu) and Yue (present-day Zhejiang) are interconnected in their physical states of being fat and thin. Whether in Jiangbei or Jiangnan, home is everywhere. They carry cloth bags, roaming the world, children playing, holding the Mo Xie sword and upholding the law. Even the Buddha can only swallow his voice, the lord of Jambudvipa (referring to the world we live in) walks between heaven and earth. Today, the lion king roars, and the elephant cubs gather in droves, solemn and harmonious, with people coming and going in quick steps. They have ancient faces, long eyebrows, and wear wide-sleeved robes. They scold the Buddha when they meet him, but are polite to people. A stick and a shout can make the dead steal the heart for countless eons; the three essentials and three mysteries can open the crown of the head. Attaining its essence and its use, father and son are in perfect harmony, which is the Tathagata Zen and the Patriarchal Zen. Brothers applaud in admiration, even in the eastern toilet, they do not speak of the Dharma. When picking up the hoe, they completely transcend the affairs and principles. A cough, a flick of the arm, this is the true meaning of the Patriarch's coming from the West. They carry alms bowls and wear kasayas (robes), the true conduct of a mendicant monk, not concerned with formalities, pursuing the essence of life. The people here are truly prosperous! The Cyan Hall (referring to the temple) soars into the clouds, the Dharma Hall covers the sky, the Buddha statues are magnificent, the chimes and bells intertwine, and the pavilions are solemn. Working at sunrise, planting shovels and cutting grass, laughter filled with the spirit of spears and halberds; resting at sunset, walking and sitting, except for sleeping, they are all focused on calming the mind. They do not establish words, but search for the truth between the lines. It is not dry meditation, but to understand thoroughly. Not hesitating to add an awl to the pain, why be stingy with moxibustion on scars. Fierce fists and spicy palms, killing and saving people, gentle words and rough words, all return to one meaning. Touching and bumping, let you bear it. Getting the flesh and getting the skin, you are not yet allowed to enter the inner chamber, the flames of the bellows here are fierce. Upon first entering the precepts, lecturing on the articles and chapters, the Vinaya Hall (referring to the place in the monastery where precepts are studied) focuses on the study of the law. Old in age and long in seniority, longing for the Land of Bliss, the Pure Land Hall (referring to the place in the monastery where the Pure Land Dharma is practiced) aims to provide for the elderly. Famine occurs frequently, and displaced people gather like hedgehogs. Bhikshus (referring to monks who have taken full ordination) endure hunger, sharing food with alms bowls, their suffering and joy are the same as those of the poor, cats, civets, cattle, and dogs.
