The mind born of form, does not hold onto moments; how can it understand the past and future forms? When colors and shapes are without any difference, that mind cannot grasp differences, and form does not appear as one. Eye-consciousness is not in the eye, nor in the form, nor in between; but relying on form and eye, arises a reversed conceptualization. If the eye could see itself, how could it see form? Therefore, eye and form have no self-nature, and so it is with the other sense bases. The eye is empty of self, and also empty of other; form is also empty, and so it is with the other sense bases. When one touch arises together, the others are empty; emptiness or non-emptiness is not established, and non-emptiness has no basis. Since self-nature does not abide and does not exist, the three together do not exist; that touch has no self-nature, so there is no feeling. Relying on the internal and external sense bases, discriminating consciousness arises; therefore, consciousness is empty like a mirage or illusion. Consciousness arises relying on the knowable, but the knowable does not exist; since the knowable does not exist, consciousness does not exist. All is impermanent, but impermanence is not permanent; if things are permanent and impermanent, how can it be so? Suffering and happiness are reversed, from causes arise attachment, aversion, and ignorance; attachment, aversion, and ignorance do not exist by nature. Because one is attached to it, averse to it, and ignorant of it; therefore, it is born from conceptualization, but that conceptualization is not true. The object to be conceptualized does not exist, without an object, how can conceptualization exist? Therefore, the object to be conceptualized and conceptualization, are born from causes, so they are empty. Understanding this, there is no ignorance born from the four inversions; if ignorance ceases, then actions do not arise, and so it is with the others. Whatever arises relying on something, if that thing does not exist, then that does not arise; existence and non-existence, conditioned and unconditioned, this is nirvana. If one truly understands that things born from causes are ignorance, as the Teacher said; from this arise the twelve links of dependent origination. If one understands that things are empty, then one sees truly and is not ignorant; this is the cessation of ignorance, and from this the twelve links cease. Actions are like a Gandharva city, illusory and unreal. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Illusion, mirage, the illusion of hair, and metaphors of bubbles, transformations, dreams, and fire wheels. (Here there is neither real existence nor non-existence. Born from causes and conditions, both existence and non-existence are emptiness.) This verse is not found in the Tanjur version, please verify. Because all things are empty in nature, the Tathagata is incomparable, This is the profound meaning of dependent origination, which is clearly shown in all things. The highest truth ends here, and names are established in the conventional truth, The perfectly enlightened Bhagavan observes through dependent origination. He teaches the indestructible Dharma of the world, but never relies on the true Dharma. The dependent origination taught by the Tathagata frightens beings obscured by ignorance, Relying on this pure and wonderful principle, one is liberated from defilements. Because this exists, that arises; this is the constant principle of the world, Whatever is relied upon has no self-nature; how can it exist? This should be well understood. The faithful diligently strive to infer this wonderful Dharma through reasoning, The unconditioned Dharma contradicts permanence, cutting off existence and non-existence to attain peace. These all arise from causes and conditions, which can cut off all evil views, To cut off greed, hatred, and delusion, one attains stainless Nirvana. The 'Seventy Stanzas on Emptiness' is now complete, written by the venerable Acharya Nagarjuna. The translations of the translator Youthful Victory, Good Auspicious Name, and Ku are excellent in both meaning and words. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
