The Root Teachings of the Six Great Sections: The Sutra of Detailed Analysis The Sutra of Detailed Analysis The Sutra of Detailed Analysis Sanskrit: Baidalyam Sutra Nama Tibetan: (The Sutra of Detailed Analysis) Homage to the noble Nagarjuna! For those who, with the arrogance of intellectual knowledge, wish to argue, in order to dispel their arrogance, I will explain the Sutra of Detailed Analysis. Pramana (means of knowledge) and prameya (object of knowledge) are both mixed, because they are not established independently. Existence, non-existence, and both, are not independent, because that would lead to an endless fallacy. Pramanas are like lamps, illuminating themselves and others. For pramanas, there is no other pramana, just as a lamp cannot illuminate darkness that is already illuminated or not illuminated. If someone says that this is like the harm of Rahu, it will also happen here. Answer: No, because this contradicts the metaphor. In the scriptures, worldly actors are also considered to be the same as lions, etc. A lamp cannot illuminate its own nature, because there is no darkness. If, conversely, darkness also obscures its own nature, that would be absurd. Pramana and prameya are not established in the three times: past, present, and future. Because they are not established in the three times, the cessation of pramana and prameya is unreasonable. If refutation is established, then pramana and prameya are also established. Answer: No, because it has been admitted before. If it is admitted that pramana and prameya cannot be established, then the argument ends at the same time as the admission, because speculation should be abandoned for things that cannot be established. Direct perception, etc., are not existent. What is the reason? Because they are correct cognitions. If direct perception, etc., are established, then the object of knowledge is unreasonable, because they are the conditions of the object of knowledge, and are neither knowledge nor the knowable. Mind is not a pramana, because it is said to be the object of knowledge. Regarding the target and non-target, there is no doubt, because existence and non-existence are not established. Doubt is not existent, because it does not depend on difference. It does not depend on difference, because it has already been negated. There is no need, because existence and non-existence themselves are sufficient. Entering a sandpile is unreasonable, because there is an example. That is the same as before. The end cannot be seen, because there is no beginning or middle. Fire is an example of splendor. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is not so, because it accords with the Dharma. The example of splendor is also not water, because it does not accord with the Dharma. If it is said that it is permissible because it slightly accords with the Dharma, that is not permissible, like Mount Meru and hair. Mostly it does not accord with the Dharma, because it has been prohibited before. If the beginning is not established, then the end is not established. If the beginning is not established, then the middle and the end are not established. Because there is no possessor of parts, the possessor of parts does not exist. It is also not established for the aggregate, because the possessor of parts will become many. Because the possessor of parts is one, all the parts will become one. Because it is not established in the three times, the possessor of parts does not exist. Or it is established like grass, cotton, and Vaja. It is not so, because it is the same as what is to be proven. Because there is no reason. Furthermore, just as the possessor of parts needs parts, all the parts also need parts. Because the proposition and the reason are not different. If it is not a reason, then the reason has no reason. 1-795 Because there is no proposition and no reason, there is no application and no conclusion. For the remaining parts, there is also no reason. If establishment is done by reason, then what is gained? For example, examples and so on are meaningless. The reason itself is meaningless. No-self, because it is not established. Because others are spoken of, one does not exist for the other. It is the same for letters. Like doubt, so is inference. For existent substances and oneness, etc., because neither other nor other is reasonable, there is no determination. Argument is non-existent, because there is no speaker and no spoken. Because it is the time for truly examining, the conventional names are seen in many forms. Worldly scholars also see the speaker and the spoken combined in many forms, so the speaker and the spoken are neither one nor other. Debate and refutation are also the same. Fallacious reasons do not exist, because there is no similarity and no dissimilarity. 1-796 There is no non-error, because there is no error. If it is said that there is a reason with error, that is not so, because those are others. Because it is momentary. All your reasons are stating contradictions, they are with error. It is not so, because before... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
