When departing from this world to the next, deceased so-and-so, now the impermanence of death has arrived for you, and the appearances of this life have ceased. The appearances of the next world have not yet arisen, and you are in the state of the bardo of dharmata or the bardo of becoming, so do not be distracted by clothes and name tags, which are supports for consciousness, and listen carefully. Know that it is not only you who are dying alone, but all beings as vast as space, sooner or later, will not escape death. No matter where one stays or goes, there is no place that death does not reach. No matter who one accompanies, there is no way to avoid death. From the universal monarch of the three thousandfold great thousand worlds down to the smallest crawling creature, there is not one who has gone to eternal life without dying. Think carefully about this! Now that death has come upon you, do not be afraid or greatly saddened. After the signs and various appearances of dissolution that you have previously experienced, there will be the three stages of appearance, increase, and attainment. When all eighty types of self-nature conceptualizations dissolve into the alaya, the appearance of the clear light dharmakaya will arise, recognize it directly. When various self-arisen peaceful and wrathful deities appear, if you recognize them, you will be liberated immediately. However, due to not recognizing your own nature, you will again take the intermediate state mind-body, and experience various illusions and fears of the intermediate state. So, how do you know that you are in the intermediate state? Now, in your illusions, you will hear sounds like the collapse of Mount Meru, the boiling of the great ocean, the burning of the great forest, and the roaring of the great wind, like a thousand thunders sounding at once. You will hear four extremely terrifying great sounds. Wherever you look, you will see any of the four great paths of white, yellow, red, and black light. Wherever you go, you will feel very frightened and afraid.

Without time to stay in one place, you see many unfamiliar lands and directions, and you arrive just by thinking, and you associate with both dead and living friends, and if food is offered, you receive a hundred flavors of divine food and the food of samadhi, but if it is not offered, you cannot even enjoy ordinary food, and whether there are clothes or not, the color, touch, softness, and roughness of the clothes are also uncertain, and you display various behaviors in accordance with karma and habits, and the way the mind appears also changes from moment to moment, these six uncertain signs appear separately, that is also a sign that you are in the bardo.
