Unmade is wisdom, and the appearance of the luminous clarity of the nature of awareness, the nature of reality, is skillful means. It abides in a state where appearance and emptiness are inseparable, naturally accomplished from the beginning. Such appearance is not a phenomenon of the mundane, compounded, and perishable world; rather, it is the ultimate, uncompounded, and unchanging nature of reality. These luminous appearances are not like worldly illusions. As the Jeweled Box states: 'The nature of space is the wisdom body, the nature of awareness is the body of skillful means, abiding in a state of inseparability.' Also, as the Root Tantra states: 'The essence of awareness is a continuous stream, in the past, future, and present. Since it is not made by anyone, it is uncompounded. It is the nature of a continuous stream. Since all conceptual thoughts are pure, it is the Buddha of the unconfused ground. For the fortunate who rely on direct perception, there is no name for the three realms of samsara, thus severing the root of the three existences.' Furthermore, as "The Lamp That Illuminates" states: 'These various appearances are not made or brought about by steps. From the very beginning, they abide as the ground. In such confident yoga, there is no joy in appearance, the way of abiding is naturally so. The appearance of the lamp of awareness cannot be destroyed by the sounds of earth, water, fire, and wind. Those who are not prophesied, even if they look with a clear lamp, a mirror, emptiness, or empty eyes, will not see it. Even if they examine it with philosophical tenets and views on meditation, they will not find it. It is not made by divination or powerful gods, nor is it a delusion like worldly appearances. Attachment, hatred, and ignorance cannot obscure it from the beginning. One's own appearances arising in oneself cannot be analyzed by wisdom. Even if one examines it with tantras, scriptures, and instructions, one will not see it. The appearances of hell beings, animals, pretas, and the six realms are oneself. They are not intentionally created, but naturally appear as such from the beginning. They are not produced by the efforts of individuals. That is the mandala, that is the deity, that is the mantra, the mudra, and the offering. That is the generation and completion stages. That is the Buddha, sentient beings, samsara, and nirvana. That is the empowerment, the vows, and the samaya. One's own guru is also the deity.' As it is said, it is naturally unmade, self-arisen, and greatly self-illuminated.
