First, regarding the method of subduing the crucial points of body, speech, and mind, as stated in the 'Transcendent Change': 'The manifest crucial point is body, speech, and mind; carefully align each of their crucial points.' Thus, among the three of body, speech, and mind, the first is the crucial point of the body. This is divided into four aspects: the necessity of subduing, the actual subduing, the faults of not subduing, and the merits of subduing. Regarding the necessity of subduing the crucial point of the body, as stated in 'Vast Clarity': 'Even if awareness abides in the body, if the knots of the channels are not controlled, it cannot appear as the basis of wisdom.' Because it is desired that awareness, the appearance of reality, which inherently abides within oneself, be directly seen by the senses, it is first necessary to subdue the crucial points of body and speech. Regarding the actual subduing, as stated in 'Transcendent Change': 'The body is the posture of the three kayas; it should not be changed constantly.' Also, as stated in 'Rosary of Pearls': 'The crucial points of the body are of three kinds: like the posture of a lion, like the posture of an elephant, abide like a sage.' Also, as stated in 'After Death': 'Establish the postures of elephant, lion, and sage.' Therefore, the posture of the Dharmakaya is: sitting on a cushion like a lion in a dog-like posture, with the two knees slightly spread outward and the soles of the feet facing each other, thus suppressing the moving winds. Place the thumbs at the base of the index fingers, curl the other fingers, and place the palms on the ground in the middle or inside of the soles of the feet, thus balancing the elements. Straighten the body and relax the upper body, allowing the breath to flow smoothly. Keep the head straight and the neck upright, which suppresses thoughts and increases strength. Gaze motionlessly at the sky between the eyebrows, thus obtaining the vajra eyes. This posture and gaze temporarily free one from all fears of delusion, the inner elements dissolve in their own place, and ultimately, one realizes the meaning of reality and is liberated into the Dharmakaya. The posture of the Sambhogakaya is: lying face down like an elephant, with the elbows on the ground, thus balancing the male, female, and neutral winds. Bringing the knees and chest together increases energy and warmth. The palms support the throat, and the fingers touch the cheeks." } ] ============================================================
