As with the previously explained three ways of resting in equanimity, without grasping or manipulating the appearances of the six consciousnesses, but rather in a state like the ocean unmoved by waves, abiding in the clear and lucid awareness is the meditation of resting like an ocean. Releasing the three doors naturally, and maintaining the clear, naked, self-luminous wisdom that emerges from the path of view and meditation, is the instruction for conduct of resting in appearance. By leaving the five objects and sense consciousnesses in their natural state, the clear, naked self-awareness dawns vividly, and the five winds are bound in space. Outwardly, the luminosity of pure self-appearance, such as smoke, mirages, rainbows, etc., also arises in accordance with common appearances. This itself is considered by the Longchen Nyingtik yogis to be the fruition of resting in unconditioned awareness. Furthermore, as it says in the 'Lamp Illuminating Awareness': 'The measure of view is resting like a mountain. The measure of meditation is resting like an ocean. The measure of conduct is resting in appearance. The measure of fruition is resting in awareness. The yogi who possesses these four measures merges with the definitive meaning.' The meaning is established by the twelve great vajra laughs and the eight great vajra statements that purify the eight aggregates of consciousness. Taking the direct awareness, which transcends cause and effect, acceptance and rejection, as the path without changing in the three times. However, for great yogis who have reached such a state of nature, comparable to Padmasambhava, Vimalamitra, Tilopa, etc., it is said directly that there is no cause and effect, good or bad. But for those like us, although we may understand this intellectually, we have not yet reached the point of complete familiarity. Therefore, it is necessary to explain it in conjunction with not being afraid of the nature and being cautious about even the smallest details of karmic results. As the omniscient father and son have said, for those of lesser intelligence, it should be explained by distinguishing between the two truths." } ] ============================================================

Therefore, one will be able to realize. If one has recognized the reality of the aforementioned experience, then by continuing to maintain this state, one will gradually gain stability. For those with dull faculties who cannot sever the imputations, they should still recognize whatever afflictive thoughts arise, and by leaving them in their own place, the nature of the afflictions will become without a place to seek and without a root to rely on. One should practice the intention of the pure realms, and diligently meditate and train. For those with sharp faculties and great intelligence, by the key of the self-liberation of dharmata, no matter what afflictive thoughts arise, their own nature cannot be sustained, just like a knot in a horse's tail that unravels on its own. Since one awakens in the unconfined liberation of appearance, there is no need to subdue it again with antidotes, nor to expand it like the Mind Series, nor to fix it in the expanse like the Space Series, but to repeat it in the experience that transcends the object of focus and thought in the natural state of the Instruction Series. When one becomes accustomed to this, in the state where awareness is free from cultivation and striving, all glories are spontaneously accomplished, and one is completely perfected into the nature of wisdom. Therefore, there is no need to specifically cultivate the ten bhumis of the bodhisattvas, nor the generation and completion stages of outer and inner mantras, nor to strive on the paths and bhumis, because the All-Creating King says: "Without alteration, without cultivation, awareness is spontaneously perfect." Thus, when practicing the path, in general, what needs to be known in common is that one must recognize the obstacles to meditation and rely on antidotes to eliminate them. As the noble son Mapam said: "Laziness and instructions, forgetfulness, sinking, and agitation, non-application and application, these are the five faults." Thus, he spoke of the obstacles. And their antidotes are the eight applications: "Dwelling and dwelling in it, cause and effect as well. Not forgetting the object, sinking, agitation, and thoughts, eliminating them, manifest application, and abiding naturally in quiescence." Thus, he spoke of the antidotes. That is to say, when one abides in equipoise, if more conceptual thoughts arise than before, or if one abides sometimes and does not abide sometimes, or even if one abides, there is a subtle mental activity deep within that cannot be eliminated, all three of these are signs of attempting to abide. If one blocks the scattering of thoughts, it cannot be eliminated, because by expanding infinitely and entrusting it to "A," it will become weak, or one will lose mindfulness.
