4. How Jowo Composed This Treatise: 4. How Jowo Composed This Treatise: It is said that Sharawa initially relied entirely on the clear texts of monastic discipline practices at that time, and eventually became exhausted, but did not lose the desired merit. Later, once in Gegong. It is said that there was a large influx of monks in Upper Ngari (western Tibet) and Ü-Tsang (central Tibet). Even so, various situations arose, and nothing was settled. Regarding all the sacred monastic disciplines, there arose situations like drinking wine without getting drunk, or what is called taking vows. Therefore, later when Jowo came, an old man from Drakgyab said, "You should study and research, and within the scope of what can be studied, even the robes themselves have three different ways of wearing them." It is said that he also said this. In any case, in Secret Mantra, there are many traces of forgery mixed with old mantras and the heretical practices of all red-robed Acharyas. In the Great Vehicle Perfection of Wisdom teachings, some actions like making vows are done, and some explanations are given based on this, but there is no practice at all. When Lhatsunpa heard all of this, Lhatsunpa, as the common ruler of the black-headed people of Tibet and the master of the teachings, felt uneasy and wanted to protect the Dharma. He thought that a reliable pandita must be invited from India, so he sent many messengers, but the pandita was not invited, and all the messengers died. At this time, gold was sent to Geshe Nagtsho again, asking him to invite Atisha. Nagtsho's teacher, the translator Gya Tson-drü Sengge, was in India at that time, so he acted as an insider and had Ratna Akara, the abbot of Vikramashila Monastery, reside and reach an agreement. He also secretly offered gold to Jowo as a request, so Jowo agreed and went to Rangjung. After that, even though his body had not recovered, he went to pay homage to the teacher. The abbot of Vikramashila Monastery said, "You seem to be going to invite Atisha, and Atisha also seems to be leaving. If I were to stop you, I could stop you, but because you pity Tibet, I will let you go this time, but you must send him back in nine months." So he stopped him. After that, the translator invited Jowo and returned to Ngari, arriving at Tholing...

At the time when the monastery was being established, Lha btsun pa reported all the similarities and differences of Tibet, and requested him to compose a treatise to correct all of these, so he composed this treatise, "Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment," which is like extracting the essence of the Buddha Bhagavan's twelve scriptures or the three pitakas. To this, Pu to ba said: Some say that Lha btsun pa reported many similarities and differences of Tibet, and he wrote "Lamp for the Path" to answer each question. Geshe Dromtönpa said: It was not just for those trivial matters, but it was created to refute all misconceptions in general. Sharawa said: Now in all these northern regions, even when a monk is speaking or giving teachings, they say that Jowo Je Lha chig is very kind, and that is only because this Dharma is very kind. This Dharma is very kind, and it is also because Geshe Dromtönpa is very kind. Geshe understood Jowo's intentions and teachings through meditation, and put everything into practice. Now, everything we do, from observing fasting every day to inviting a Dharma teacher for each of the four assemblies, these practical actions are all thanks to Geshe Dromtönpa. Pu to ba said: Now in this valley of ours, even for someone like a white ear that has just had its hair shaved today, there are many things to do. All the other people's things are also small. Just as he said. When Geshe Dromtönpa was sixteen years old, he went to Kham and met Jowo Se tsün Wangchuk Shyönnu. Se tsün was also the Khenpo of Drung, so the stories of Drung are all different. Geshe Dromtönpa Zhiwa stayed in Kham for twenty years, and when he was thirty-six years old, Jowo Se tsün said: Acho, your father seems to be still alive, go back and meet your father once. At that time, he heard the news of Atisha going to Ngari, and thinking that if he went to Ü-Tsang, he should meet that Pandit, so he went back and met his father, and then headed towards Yasru. After a journey of nine months with Jowo and his disciples, when they were preparing to go to India seven years later, they arrived in the land of Zhangzhung, and as soon as they arrived, they requested to postpone the trip, but it was not possible. He felt unwell and went to take care of him.
