Rinpoche said, 'Then, is it that you have not realized the true nature? Is it because the meditation time is too short, or have you not meditated at all?' I asked. Rinpoche said, 'It is that you have not fully realized the true nature. It is also because you have not meditated; in reality, the meditation time is too short.' I asked, 'Then, will there be no co-emergent wisdom and subsequent wisdom until this body of karmic ripening exists?' Rinpoche said, 'Even though this body of karmic ripening exists, because of long-term meditation, the co-emergent wisdom and subsequent wisdom will disappear, and you will be liberated in this very life.' I asked, 'Then, what about the spontaneously arising thoughts when mindfulness is lost?' Rinpoche said, 'This is because of the unpurified grasping and the grasped. Through long-term meditation, when the grasping and the grasped are purified, the thoughts will also be purified. Because mindfulness has nothing to grasp, the co-emergent wisdom and subsequent wisdom will not arise.' I asked, 'If the co-emergent wisdom and subsequent wisdom do not mix and you die, will it cut off the arising of the bardo (intermediate state)?' Rinpoche said, 'It will cut it off, without a doubt.' I asked, 'Then, will the thoughts that are now grasped by mindfulness not become obstacles?' Rinpoche said, 'They will not become obstacles. Thoughts cannot create negative karma, just like sowing seeds in the sky, there is no place to produce fruit. Everything is in the state of realizing non-arising.' I asked, 'Then, in the dream state of deep sleep, if you have not realized the true nature, will you realize it in the bardo?' Rinpoche said, 'You have not realized the true nature in the state of sleep and dreams. In the state of sleep and dreams, it will become even less clear than now. In the bardo, it will become even clearer than now, so you will grasp the things of the present again.' I asked, 'If mindfulness does not grasp, the true nature will not appear, then will the spontaneously arising thoughts be grasped by mindfulness? Will the previous thoughts be cut off? Is it necessary to hold onto mindfulness until death?' Rinpoche said, 'The spontaneously arising thoughts that have not been grasped by mindfulness will dissipate as soon as they are grasped by mindfulness. It is not necessary to hold onto mindfulness until death. However, if you do not let mindfulness wander, it will help prevent the mixing of co-emergent wisdom and subsequent wisdom. Even if it is not grasped by mindfulness, thoughts will not cause harm, obstacles, or hindrances.' I asked, 'Besides maintaining mindfulness without wandering, is there anything else to practice?' Rinpoche said, 'Besides the encouragement of mindfulness, there is nothing else to practice.' The questions and answers were unparalleled. The venerable Lama Lhaje (Lhaje, a title of respect for a Lama), although he had countless accomplished disciples, among them, the four heart-sons or accomplished ones were: Shoram Phakpa, Zimshi Yeshe Nyingpo, Sergom Yeshe Nyingpo, Ramnyi Chokyi Yungdrung. The lineage holders. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
