Do not give up! Life and body are impermanent like water bubbles, When death comes is unpredictable, strive to practice Dharma. The practice of Dharma is to do good and abandon evil, Increase virtue and do not be stained by sin. The ultimate refuge is the infallible Three Jewels, In all ways, trust and take refuge. From beginningless time, for kind sentient beings, May they attain happiness, be free from suffering, with joy, The four immeasurable equanimity for all, For the benefit of beings, repeatedly cultivate bodhicitta. The root of Dharma is compassion and bodhicitta, With the altruistic mind that cherishes others more than oneself, Generate the supreme mind wishing all beings to attain enlightenment, It is very important to cultivate in all ways. Whatever merit you do, dedicate it to sentient beings, May all attain the aspiration to achieve Buddhahood. These are the practices of conceptual elaboration. Alas! Listen, Yogis, If you want to diligently practice the essence, (Then understand that) the essence of Sutra, Vinaya, and Abhidharma is luminosity, The nature is the essence of appearance and existence, primordial emptiness, The meaning is the supreme reality free from arising and ceasing, The function is free from permanence and annihilation, coming and going, Not falling into any extreme, like the example of space, It is the supreme reality of Mahamudra, Dzogchen, and Madhyamaka, The innate nature is the separation of mind and mental factors, The meaning is the original and authentic primordial supreme, The essence of the duality of subject and object is, The meaning is this very self-arisen wisdom. The meaning is beyond the object of knowledge and the knower, The key point is that even without the seer and the seen, The meaning is the view of realizing in one's own mind, The meaning is that there is no place for straying or error, Please realize the view, all fortunate ones! The key is to remain in that view, without alteration, The mind is not distracted, not meditating, in its own nature, That is guarding one's own nature, it is meditation. For example, space dissolving into space, The meaning is to rest like water poured into water. The mind is not fabricated, without conceptualization, naturally, Continuously abiding is samadhi. The meaning is in the emptiness like space, The innate mind appears like a river, The meaning is boundless like the ocean, The nature of luminosity appears like the sun, Sometimes the experience of happiness arises, The essence of happiness is without object, The experience of suffering is also the same. Knowing that happiness and suffering are all illusions, Rest the mind in the state like space. Child, further ascertain awareness, Sometimes

Thoughts of seeking and desiring to eat arise. This is the unobstructed display of emptiness, devoid of inherent existence. Likewise, if doubts of not finding it arise, rest the mind in a state free from hope and doubt. Son, further ascertain the true nature of reality. Sometimes, the thought arises, 'I would be happy if I were famous.' That is rootless, like space. Likewise, if doubts of not being famous arise, rest the mind in a state free from elaboration. Son, further ascertain the truth of being free from extremes. Sometimes, the appearance of joy upon being praised arises. That is baseless, like an echo in the rocks. Likewise, if you are neither praised nor criticized, rest the mind in a state free from grasping. Son, further ascertain the truth of equality. Sometimes, the hope that something is arises. Its nature is like a flower in the sky. Likewise, if doubts that something is not arise, rest the mind in a state free from bias. Son, further ascertain the truth of the view. At all times, without day or night, in the self-illuminating nature of the mind, without grasping, rest the mind in an uncorrected, natural state. If the mind is dull, awareness sinks into space. If the mind is agitated, relax awareness and rest. Maintain the self-nature of spontaneously arising awareness. This is the practice of Dharma; become accustomed to it. From within that state of meditation, mix it with activities, such as eating, walking, sleeping, and so on. At all times, in all activities, do not be distracted. Act with mindfulness and awareness. Like the example of dreams and illusions, act in a relaxed state, free from grasping. When thoughts of detachment and non-attachment arise, know that this is the practice. By meditating in this way, without sequential stages, the self-nature of spontaneously arising awareness will naturally ripen. The confusion of mind and mental factors dissolves into the expanse. The kingdom of the view of original purity is attained. The luminosity of the mind is like the sun, without waxing or waning. The nature of reality is like space, unchanging. The essence of primordial nature is continuous and unbroken. The realms, bodies, and wisdom are spontaneously accomplished. It becomes the pinnacle of accomplishing both Dharma and benefit. This is the result; it will come upon realization. By the merit of explaining these key points in this way, may all sentient beings, as infinite as space, realize the meaning of effortless liberation, and may they attain the fruit of perfect enlightenment. Mangalam!\ This was written by the Great Perfection yogi Pema Rigdzin at the foremost of all the sacred places of the Tsari Yeshe Khorlo (རྩ་རི་ཏྲ་ཡེ་ཤེས་ཀྱི་འཁོར་ལོའི་གནས་མཆོག་), at the urging of Samten Trinley Tendzin (བསམ་གཏན་ཕྲིན་ལས་བསྟན་འཛིན་), who requested a clear and concise instruction.
