The Prayer of Kuntuzangpo The Prayer of Kuntuzangpo ༄༅། །The Prayer of Kuntuzangpo May all beings attain enlightenment through the prayer of Kuntuzangpo. HO! All that appears and exists, samsara and nirvana, Are rooted in one ground, but follow two paths, and have two results. Through the magic of awareness and unawareness, May all beings attain buddhahood, Perfectly completing themselves in the palace of the dharmadhatu, Through the prayer of Kuntuzangpo! The ground of everything is uncreated. It is a vast, self-arising expanse, beyond the reach of the mind. It is without name, even for samsara or nirvana. Realizing this is buddhahood. Not realizing it is the wandering of beings in samsara. May all beings throughout the three realms Realize the meaning of this ground, which is beyond words! I, Kuntuzangpo, also, Am enlightened from the beginning, without cause or condition. So I know the meaning of the ground. On this ground, self-arising awareness dawns, And I have never clung to outer objects or inner subjects. I have never been obscured by the darkness of unknowing. So self-display is free and unconfined. Remaining in my own awareness, Even if the three worlds are destroyed, I have no fear. I have no attachment to the five objects of desire. In the self-arising nature of thought-free awareness, There is no solid form or the five poisons. Unobstructed, the clarity of awareness Is one essence with five wisdoms. From the maturing of these five wisdoms, The five original Buddha families arise. Through the further expansion of wisdom, The forty-two peaceful Buddhas are born. Through the dawning power of the five wisdoms, The sixty wrathful Herukas are born. Since the ground of awareness has never been deluded, I am the original Buddha. Through the power of my prayer, May all beings throughout the three realms of samsara Recognize their own self-arising awareness, And may great wisdom spread and grow! My emanations never cease. They appear in countless billions. Showing whatever is needed to tame beings, Through the power of my compassion and prayer, May all beings throughout the three realms of samsara Escape from the suffering of the six realms! In the beginning, beings are deluded Because they do not recognize their own awareness. They are lost in a state of unknowing. This is the cause of delusion. Then, overwhelmed by sudden terror, Their awareness scatters and fragments. From this, they develop the idea of "self" and "other," and cling to it as an enemy. As their habit of dualistic perception grows, They enter the path of samsara. Then the five poisons of the emotions blaze up, And their actions are ceaseless. So, since the root of delusion is unknowing, May all beings recognize their own awareness, Through the prayer of the Buddha, Kuntuzangpo! The coemergent unknowing Is a state of blank, forgetful

Is. The ignorance of complete imputation, clings to self and other as two. Both co-emergent and completely imputed ignorance are the basis of delusion for all sentient beings. I, the Buddha, make the aspiration, May all sentient beings in samsara, Clear away the darkness of unconsciousness and dullness, Purify the knowledge of clinging to duality, And realize the self-face of awareness. The mind of dualistic clinging is doubt, From the arising of subtle attachment, Thick imprints gradually increase. Food, wealth, clothing, dwelling, and friends, The five desirable qualities and loving relatives, Are tormented by the desire for pleasing things. These are the delusions of the world, The work of grasping and being grasped has no end. When the fruit of attachment ripens, In the hungry ghosts tormented by dryness and thirst, Having been born, hunger and thirst are so unbearable. I, the Buddha, make the aspiration, May all sentient beings with desire and attachment, Not abandon the suffering of desire, Nor take attachment to themselves, By loosening awareness in its own place, May awareness be held and stabilized, And may they attain the all-discerning wisdom. On the appearance of external objects, A subtle knowledge of fear arises, From the increase of the imprints of hatred, The aggression of holding enemies, striking, and killing arises. When the fruit of hatred ripens, In the hells, the suffering of boiling and burning is unbearable. I, the Buddha, make the aspiration, May all sentient beings of the six realms, When intense hatred arises, Not abandon or take, but loosen in its own place, May awareness be held and stabilized, And may they attain the clear wisdom. From the arising of pride in one's own mind, A competitive and disparaging mind towards others arises, From the arising of an intense arrogant mind, Suffering the struggle between self and other is experienced. When the fruit of that karma ripens, They are born as gods who experience falling and changing. I, the Buddha, make the aspiration, May all sentient beings who have pride, At that time, loosen awareness in its own place, May awareness be held and stabilized, And may they realize the meaning of equality. From the imprints of increased dualistic clinging, From the sting of praising oneself and denigrating others, From the increase of competition and fighting, They are born in the realm of killing asuras. The result falls into the place of hell. I, the Buddha, make the aspiration, May all those who have competition and fighting, Not hold as enemies, but loosen in its own place, May awareness be held and stabilized, And may they attain unimpeded activity wisdom. Due to unconsciousness, abandonment, and distraction, Dullness, confusion, forgetfulness, fainting, and lazi
