A Letter Sent to King Chandra A Letter Sent to King Chandra In Sanskrit: Chandra Raja Lekha Ka. In Tibetan: A Letter Sent to King Chandra. Homage to the Protector of the World! Lord of the three realms, king of gods and humans, Endowed with virtues, possessing a thousand sons of noble Tibet, The unparalleled turner of the wheel of Dharma, May the Dharma King conquer the king! A yogi with the name of Friend, To the lord of the earth with the name of Moon, With affection, from afar, to your presence, I offer the instruction of reason as a message. When the lord of the earth is wealthy, At that very time, one should use and give away, Completely dedicate and bury as treasure, This life is unique, the next is immeasurable. When after death, one is miserly, And is burned by poverty, what good will it do? When the lord of the earth is friendly with someone, One should sever ties from the beginning, Therefore, it is the root of many harms, Do not divide, do not seek fame. When for a moment, by the power of circumstances, One is controlled, what good will it do then? When the lord of the earth sees someone as an enemy, One should not fight from the beginning, Not because of the mother, but driven by circumstances, Both illusion and reality are without substance. When like a fire breaking out in a forest, It flares up, what good will it do then? When the lord of the earth has a borrowed body, Without sickness, without decline, abiding in bliss, At that very time, one should take its essence, Do what is fearless of sickness, death, and decline. When old age, decline, etc., arrive, Even if one remembers, what good will it do then? How are enjoyments like the bees of a house, How are friends like people in a shop, Enemies are like harm in a dream, How is one's own body like a phantom's skin, How is bustle like the source of disease, How is life like water on a cliff. When one is attached to something, At that very time, one should let it go, Why be attached to something small, That is an unbearable bond. When one is hateful towards something, At that very time, one should let it go, Why be disturbed by something small, That is an unbearable collapse. Listen, in this way, the land you possess, And the power and wealth up to the edge of the ocean, When you yourself change, What will it be like then? Please speak well. For now, your body is like a vajra, A refuge and jewel for beings, Unstable, it is the master of movement, The time when it will surely arise is coming.

Thus, in the midst of the fullness of glory, if you think of enjoying yourself, the liberated ones bind the kingdom, and see the king as if he were submerged. The ocean of suffering is boundless and bottomless, even if submerged in the whirlpool of existence, there is no sorrow or fear, but joy and laughter. What is in our hearts? Poverty and the pursuit of pleasure, guarding and destroying, separation and meeting, old age and decay. Constantly entering the burning fire, yet thinking of pleasure, like a madman. Form, sound, smell, taste, touch, and dharma, like images, like gatherings of enemy images, therefore, do not constantly think about them, do not be attached. Even if attached, act accordingly. Due to beginningless habitual karmic forces, the mind is like a bee collecting nectar. With reason and oral instructions, with the remembrance of faults, turn back again. Meaningless, inverted meaning, inferior meaning, develop attachment to such meanings, and the three doors create unbearable suffering. Even the best of men should have the wisdom to discern. Just as the body and speech are, so should the mind be. Playfulness, distraction, and wandering thoughts, or killing, slander, and harmful thoughts, etc., doing good with attachment to this life, thus and thus, it is meaningful and excellent. If you practice the supreme meaning, wouldn't it be even better? Like the impermanent Rakshasa, before falling into its mouth, transform the pleasures of gods and humans into your own, strive diligently, king of men! When you fall into the mouth of the Rakshasa, at that time your armies and forces, power and wealth, consorts and children, and the talents you boast of, will be of no use. Alas! The tiring deeds of the past, constantly with unbearable suffering, approach closely, if you are still not complacent, how can the kingdom and the king be arrogant and complacent? Like a boat found after sinking in the ocean, like the waves of a rapid current, like a bird-scaring tree with sweet and sour fruits, the king's old age, sickness, decay, and death, these four should be constantly remembered. How you bestow favor, so too it brings harm, having it brings sorrow, losing it brings pain, being together reveals faults, and disputes arise constantly, this is the nature of sentient beings. The one virtue, the pure white dharma, with this in this life and the next, temporarily and permanently, all are meaningful, all are meaningful, no need to discuss further. Ask old age, sickness, decay, and death! Alas! The world is blind with eyes, clearly and constantly seeing with one's own eyes, yet still not thinking about it even a little, has your heart turned into a vajra? Praising this life's
