By the fame of the Sage, joy arises throughout the world, surpassing all examples. Near the mountain of austerity, connected to the vast tree roots, Dwelling in the uneven, loose crevices of the rocks, Covered with moss, the morning sunlight, Like hands caressing, makes them dry. Empty houses, under the trees, the wind flows, heavy snow falls. The luster fades, the extremely rough leaves encircle like rings. For those who have abandoned all desires, the sharp-witted ascetics, The night does not cause them any sorrow. The mossy water droplets clinging to the tips of the tree leaves, At sunrise, their color is like jewels. These droplets, for the monks dwelling under the trees, Truly show the arising and ceasing of beings. Knowing the taste of the most peaceful bliss, even the wealth of a universal monarch, After thorough consideration, is abandoned like a withered garland. Hiding the naturally wavering youthful demeanor, Dying in solitude like mountain deer, making the peaceful mind firm. For the mind that is perverted by desire, white as a lotus, Connected with teeth, with a smile. The cremation fire blown by the wind, burning the nearby trees, In the charnel ground, the solitary ascetic finds joy at night. The trees are clustered, and the vast mountain roots become verdant, Covered with stones, cool, and moss drips water. Peacocks joyfully sing, their voices echoing in the mountain valleys, The sorrowful heart of dying at home becomes very joyful. For those who die without benefiting beings, in homes, For those joys, learning from the supreme solitude.

Surrounded by..., the edge of the peaceful forest, alas! Abandoned by the virtuous monk, like a deer lured by the hunter's song to be killed. Following the wishes of the noble ones, after following the path of the Sugatas, like a forest, even if one accomplishes one's own affairs at home, since there is no harm in nature, the forest is secluded, and the bonds of the mind are cut off effortlessly. Whatever desires are needed for it, they will increase, and the teachings that can be practiced well will also decline, and the situation that is more difficult to cross than a fiercely burning fire, in the end, the monk will become attached to the inferior evil realms. If someone promises to accept the Buddha's well-spoken words that can extinguish all sinful suffering, thereby throwing himself into evil realms, then how can the excellent fragrance of the essence of blue lotus and a little water satisfy the cool sandalwood tree and the cool breeze? The sound of the sara tree is a naturally pleasant song, and because it is proclaimed without interruption, it pervades the excellent ones, and the fatigue caused by walking and dwelling of the ascetic, and the midnight sleep of the night when the body is relaxed, will be awakened. Adorned with its own mandala of light, completely abiding, destroying the splendor of the gathering of moonlight, extremely intimidating, looking at the fortunate world that has accumulated roots of virtue, the self-born noble one also relies on that solitary place. If someone can completely defeat the inner enemy, the teacher who sees the edge of the world also relies on the forest, then why don't those who cannot truly understand, the disciplined ones who are immersed in the impure mud, the Sugatas who seek peace, follow? Because of clinging to the view of self, day and night, like a worm, devoured by evil thoughts, stained with the pus of afflictions, like washing with a bottle of peaceful water, the mind should rely on the forest of non-birth. The Tamala leaves with branches bent by the weight of fruits, the appearing bamboo forest, the flowers blooming, possessing the factors that make the birds happy, the trees of the forest, like a friend, breathe deeply for the monk who relies on them without poverty. The moon rises, the snow falls,

Obstructed by arrangements. Those winter nights are extremely peaceful, desired by those who want happiness, The yogis delight in grass mats, and at dawn, They resemble birds hiding in the trees of the forest. Near the trees, on the mountainside, unmoving in a lotus position, Surrounded by flowers, swayed by the wind of great joy, Friend of beings, Lord of the Three Realms, at the Bodhi tree, Thus abiding, the disciplined ones diligently practice at night. The prideful attachments touched by the minds of inferior beings, Those who seek the goal of desire, having abandoned distinctions, The noble ones then arise with steadfastness, disregarding the bonds and fears, With no remaining desires, joyfully find peace in the forest. Without ultimately dealing with the suffering of birth, aging, sickness, and death, Do not carelessly sink into the ocean of samsara. This which ultimately seizes the lives of all beings, Unceasingly, brandishes the sharp edge of an axe towards beings. Like the gathering of rivers flowing from the earth-holder (mountain), Having thus understood the nature in which all phenomena abide, With a heart superior to others, proceed virtuously, Rely on the joy of extreme peace, free from attachment to samsara. Merely speaking is possible, but abiding in words cannot be achieved, A person who makes words the core is like a cloud without water in autumn. Because in the teachings of the Tathagata, practice is the essence. Therefore, entering into practice is wisdom; being skilled in rhetoric is useless. Completely by the enemy of afflictions, Controlled and become a slave. Therefore, pacify my mind, Completely speak of oneself. 《Words of Seclusion》, composed by the great teacher Atisha, is complete. The Indian Abbot Dipamkara, and the translator monk Gewai Lodro, who revised and finalized it. 《Words of Seclusion》. Atisha.
