A son is one who is perfect in conduct, discipline, livelihood, rituals, and views. Like a person with desires, it is to dedicate all actions to others, like that which comes from the Noble Jewel Cloud Sutra. Like darkness, it is to constantly abide in the meaning of the Great Madhyamaka. Like an executioner, one should abandon the person who generates wrong views. Like a thief, it is carelessness and disrespect, which should be abandoned. Like an enemy, it is shamelessness and carelessness. Like a fool, it is the absence of mindfulness and awareness. Like a drunkard, it is the four blacknesses. Like an animal, it is not knowing the ways of learning. Like a butcher, it is having conduct devoid of compassion. Like ingratitude for what has been done, it is establishing the Pratimoksha vows. Like an orphan, it is being separated from skillful means. Like a beggar, it is not knowing what should and should not be done. Like being possessed by a demon, it is not knowing the fifty obstructing dharmas and the thirty-two obstructing dharmas. What are the fifty-five? Like that which comes from the Noble Bodhisattva Pitaka, thus, one obstructing dharma is carelessness. Two obstructing dharmas are shamelessness and lack of embarrassment. Three are desire, hatred, and ignorance. Four are the four non-noble conducts. Five are killing, taking what is not given, sexual misconduct, lying, and drinking alcohol. Six are disrespect towards the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, discipline, teachers, and elders. Seven are the seven types of pride. Eight are the eight wrongdoings. Nine are the nine types of pervasive afflictive objects. Ten are the ten non-virtuous actions. The thirty-two obstructing dharmas also come from the Noble Great Vehicle Quintessence Sutra. As it is said, daughter, the obstructing dharmas of the Great Vehicle are thirty-two, and because of these obstructions, one cannot quickly attain omniscience. What are the thirty-two? Like this, wanting the vehicle of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, wanting Indra and Brahma.

Laziness, abiding in procreation and practicing celibacy, clinging to a single root of virtue, being stingy with enjoyments and possessions, not giving equally to sentient beings, being lax in discipline, not guarding the minds of others, harboring harmful intentions, and latent anger, thereby becoming discouraged, forgetful, not seeking to hear, lacking wisdom, engaging in non-noble conduct, increasing pride beyond arrogance, having impure actions of body, speech, and mind, not fully protecting the sacred Dharma, teachers concealing the Dharma, abandoning the objects of gathering, abandoning the Dharma that truly brings joy, associating with evil friends, not fully dedicating to Bodhi, which is incompatible with the three aggregates, taking pride in small roots of virtue at a young age, having a mind that falls helplessly, not praising the qualities of the external environment, harboring harmful thoughts towards Bodhisattvas, abandoning Dharma that has not been heard, not understanding the activities of demons, holding the secret words of worldly deception, not maturing sentient beings, and not being weary of Samsara. These thirty-two obstacles are the true obstacles to the Great Vehicle path, and these obstacles will certainly not give rise to omniscience. Although this is the case, the more virtues the Great Vehicle has, the more obstacles there are, so it is said. Furthermore, countless obstacles are seen in many Sutras, but they are not recorded here because the length would become too long. For beginner Bodhisattvas who are dedicated to this path, they should read those scriptures and strive to practice. There are many other things to be said, enduring harsh and intense, long-term unbearable suffering is also amazing! Being scattered by four rivers, riding on skeletons again and again is also amazing! Wives leaving home, taking good asceticism, always having body, speech, and mind scattered is also amazing! Even without the slightest root of virtue, being able to completely eradicate the wisdom of the Buddha of true meaning.

It is also very strange to look for faults! Without the precepts of individual liberation, it is also very strange to thoroughly investigate and seek the two supreme aspects of Mahayana Bodhi! Although there are many strange things like this, how can one speak exhaustively about the thoughts and behaviors of sentient beings in the world? Therefore, wise people who desire liberation, do not mingle with those madmen, and abide in mindfulness. Like this, unless they are regarded as objects of compassion, even if the supreme path is taught, they will not enter it, what should I do? Until one attains direct perception of wisdom, one cannot ripen others, one should live alone like a rhinoceros. One should seek a good lama, and one should always look at the sutras. The essential instructions extracted from all the meanings of the sutras. Completed by the great scholar Pal Marme Dze Yeshe (Glorious Lamp-Making Wisdom). The great Indian abbot himself and the great translator-monk Tsultrim Gyalwa (Moral Conduct Banner) translated, edited, and finalized it. The essential instructions extracted from all the meanings of the sutras. Marme Dze Yeshe (Lamp-Making Wisdom).
