They do not know, they do not see. Those who, having examined those non-existent dharmas as they are, become manifestly attached to name and form, up to becoming manifestly attached to the dharmas of the Buddhas, this is their third discrimination, namely, the discrimination of manifest attachment to name and form. Those who are manifestly attached to dharmas discriminate into two non-existent extremes, and after examining, they do not know, they do not see. What do they not know, what do they not see? They do not know, they do not see form. They do not know, they do not see feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness, up to the sense bases, elements, and dependent origination. They do not know, they do not see the thirty-seven factors of enlightenment, up to the unshared dharmas of the Buddhas. Thus, they are counted among children, which is their fourth discrimination, namely, the discrimination of attachment to the two extremes. They do not know, they do not see due to the causes of ignorance and craving. What do they not know, what do they not see? They do not know, they do not see that form is completely defiled. Likewise, they do not know, they do not see that form is completely purified. They do not know, they do not see that feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness are completely defiled. Likewise, they do not know, they do not see that consciousness is completely purified. They will certainly not arise. From where will they certainly not arise? They will certainly not arise from the desire realm. They will certainly not arise from the form realm. They will certainly not arise from the formless realm. They will certainly not arise from the dharmas of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, which is their fifth discrimination, namely, the discrimination of not knowing complete defilement and complete purification. They do not have faith. How do they not have faith? They do not have faith that form is empty of form, up to enlightenment being empty of enlightenment. They do not abide. How do they not abide? They do not abide in the perfection of generosity, the discipline of.

They do not abide in the perfection of discipline, the perfection of patience, the perfection of diligence, or the perfection of meditation. They do not abide in the perfection of wisdom. They do not abide in the stage of non-retrogression. They do not abide among the unmixed qualities of the Buddhas. These are manifest attachments. How are they manifest attachments? They are manifestly attached to form. They are manifestly attached to feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. They are manifestly attached to the eye. They are manifestly attached to the ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. They are manifestly attached to the sense bases, the elements, and dependent origination. They are manifestly attached to desire, hatred, and delusion. They are manifestly attached to views. They are manifestly attached even to enlightenment. Therefore, they are called childish. The questioner said: World Honored One, is it the case that bodhisattvas, great beings, who study in this way do not study the perfection of wisdom and do not manifest omniscience? The World Honored One replied: Shariputra, bodhisattvas, great beings, who study in this way do not study the perfection of wisdom. They do not manifest omniscience. The questioner said: World Honored One, for what reason is it that bodhisattvas do not study the perfection of wisdom and do not manifest omniscience? The World Honored One replied: Shariputra, in this case, bodhisattvas, great beings, due to unskilled means, conceptualize the perfection of wisdom. They manifestly attach to it. They conceptualize the perfection of meditation. They manifestly attach to it. They conceptualize the perfection of diligence. They manifestly attach to it. They conceptualize the perfection of patience. They manifestly attach to it. They conceptualize the perfection of discipline. They manifestly attach to it. They conceptualize the perfection of generosity. They manifestly attach to it. Likewise, they conceptualize meditation, the immeasurables, and the formless attainments.
