How should one examine? If, when I attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, may the sound of desire, hatred, and ignorance not even be heard in that Buddha-field, then one should also train in the perfection of wisdom. Shariputra, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the perfection of wisdom, one should examine in this way: If, in the Buddha-field where I attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment and become a Buddha, beings are praised by the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, residing in other Buddha-fields, saying, "Subduing is good! Peace is good! Truly subduing is good! Practicing celibacy is good! Not harming all sentient beings is good!" Like that, being specially praised, becoming an object of special praise, may I become endowed with wisdom of such a nature, therefore one should train in the perfection of wisdom. Shariputra, furthermore, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the perfection of wisdom, At that time, one should examine in this way: If, even after I have completely passed into Nirvana, the sound of "the sacred Dharma is declining" is not even heard, may I be able to do that; if sentient beings in worlds as numerous as the sands of the Ganges, whoever hears my name, will immediately and certainly attain the unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, then one should also train in the perfection of wisdom. Shariputra, when a Bodhisattva-Mahasattva thus practices the perfection of wisdom and accomplishes these qualities, the Four Great Kings will think, "Just as the former Tathagatas were offered bowls by the former Great Kings, we too should offer these four bowls to this Bodhisattva-Mahasattva. We will serve and respect this one," and the gods of the Thirty-Three will rejoice and contend.

The gods of Aprāṇa, Tuṣita, Nirmāṇarati, and Paranirmita-vaśavartin will also rejoice. Thus, the ranks of the asuras will diminish, and the ranks of the gods will increase. The gods of Brahma's realm, Brahma's retinue, Brahma's assembly, Great Brahma, Lesser Light, Immeasurable Light, Clear Light, Lesser Virtue, Immeasurable Virtue, Increasing Virtue, Cloudless, Born of Merit, Great Fruit, Non-Perceptual Beings, Non-Abandoning, Non-Afflicting, Well-Seeing, Greatly Seeing, and the gods of Akanishtha, all those who are there, will rejoice, thinking, "We should entreat this one who has manifestly and perfectly awakened to turn the wheel of Dharma." Shariputra, when the bodhisattva mahasattva practices the perfection of wisdom and the six perfections increase, the sons and daughters of the bodhisattva's lineage will also rejoice, thinking, "We will be the father, mother, brothers, sisters, wives, sons, daughters, friends, ministers, relatives, companions, and spiritual friends of this great being." The Four Great Kings, the gods of the Four Great Kings' retinue, the Thirty-three, Aprāṇa, Tuṣita, Nirmāṇarati, Paranirmita-vaśavartin, Brahma's realm, Brahma's retinue, Brahma's assembly, Great Brahma, Lesser Light, Immeasurable Light, Clear Light, Lesser Virtue, Immeasurable Virtue, Increasing Virtue, Cloudless, Born of Merit, Great Fruit, Non-Perceptual Beings, Non-Abandoning, Non-Afflicting, Well-Seeing, Greatly Seeing, and the gods of Akanishtha will also rejoice, thinking that they will offer a retinue of consorts to that bodhisattva mahasattva. However, whichever bodhisattva mahasattva it is, from the time of generating the first thought, they will practice celibacy, not engaging in practices that are in accordance with the Vinaya. That one does not engage in desires and unchastity, thinking thus.
