Explanation of the characteristics of distinction. Explanation of the characteristics of distinction. Among these, here, many things that are in accordance with the aspects of definite distinction in this and that place have been shown. What are the individual characteristics of these? For the time being, taking the aspect of all-knowingness itself as the main focus, that which is in accordance with the aspects of definite distinction for bodhisattvas is more excellent than the characteristics of the actions that are in accordance with the aspects of definite distinction for śrāvakas, due to six kinds of distinctions: The distinction of the object is because it focuses on the aspects of impermanence, etc., in the Four Noble Truths. The distinction of the aspect is because it is the aspect itself of non-attachment, etc. The distinction of the cause is because it is the cause itself of the three vehicles. The distinction of correct grasping is because of skill in means and being completely grasped by a virtuous friend. The distinction of correct application is because it is truly endowed with the four kinds of conceptualizations. The distinction of the aspect is because the aspects of small, medium, and large are more excellent than the other aspects that are in accordance with the aspects of definite distinction. As it is said in that very text, "The object and the aspect, the cause and the complete grasping." And so on, this is what is to be shown. Taking the knowledge of the path itself as the main focus, the distinctions of the object and aspect of those that have been shown to be in accordance with the aspects of definite distinction in the path of the śrāvakas are also more excellent than the previous ones. The distinction of the object is because it focuses on emptiness in the aggregates of form, etc. The distinction of the aspect is because form and emptiness are non-dual, and cannot be made into two. Regarding this, as it is said, "In the path of the noble śrāvakas, because form, etc., are empty, all emptinesses are without difference." And so on, this is what is to be shown. The distinctions of the object and aspect of those that have been shown to be in accordance with the aspects of definite distinction in the path of enlightenment of the pratyekabuddhas are also more excellent than the previous ones. The distinction of the object is because it focuses on all phenomena as mere imputation. The distinction of the aspect is that it shows the nature of phenomena without contradicting imputation.

It is because of the aspect. As it is said in that very scripture, without contradicting the Dharma nature as it is spoken, showing the aspect of the Sugata becoming warm, etc., is what is taught. That which is taught in accordance with the definitive aspect of realizing all aspects is encompassed by the path of application, which is the basis for all sentient beings. It is particularly excellent because of the distinction of focusing on all sentient beings, and the distinctions of aspects such as equality of mind towards those sentient beings, as appropriate. As it is said in that very scripture: "Here, the object of warmth and the like, is praised as being all sentient beings. The aspects of equality of mind and so forth towards them, are taught as ten." This is what is taught. This is, for the time being, the distinction of characteristics by way of the aspects of definitive discrimination. Among them, what Here, what is the difference between showing many kinds of paths of seeing in this and that? If, for the time being, the path of seeing is known by knowing the aspect of the path itself, it is the non-abiding path, because it does not fall into either samsara or nirvana. Again, as it is said in that very scripture: "Subhuti, the Bodhisattva should generate all paths, but should not realize the true limit," and so on. What is the path of seeing of all knowledge? It is the path that transcends the Hinayana. Again, as it is said in that very scripture: "The perfections of the Hearers and Solitary Buddhas should be viewed and transcended by the knowledge and vision of the Bodhisattva." And again, it is said that the knowledge and abandonment from the Stream-enterer to the Solitary Buddha is the patience of the Bodhisattva. Having made the distinction of the characteristic of realizing all aspects the empowerment, what is the path of seeing that is shown? It is the path of distinction. As it is said in that very scripture: "With inconceivable distinctions and so forth, having the sphere of activity of entering the truth with distinction, the characteristic of the sixteen moments is explained." This is what is taught. If, also, by the empowerment of the Sangha of the non-returning Bodhisattva, the path with disciples becomes the stage of the learner, as it is said in that very scripture: "The path of seeing and"
