A Prose Method for A-ra-pa-tsa-na. A Prose Method for A-ra-pa-tsa-na. In Sanskrit: Mugtake Kana A-ra-pa-tsa-na Sa-dha-nam. In Tibetan: A Prose Method for A-ra-pa-tsa-na. Homage to Noble Manjushri! First, for a while, the mantra practitioner should sit comfortably on a cushion in a direction agreeable to their mind. In their own heart, on a moon arisen from the first letter, contemplate the seed syllable A with two bindus at the end, which is four-fifths of five parts. Then, with the collection of rays of light from it, dispel the darkness of afflictions dwelling in the heart, and cultivate the four immeasurables, namely, loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. In the order that will be explained, what is loving-kindness? It is to be exceedingly delighted with all sentient beings as if they were one's only child. What is compassion? It is the wish to liberate sentient beings tormented by the three sufferings from the ocean of samsara. What is joy? It is to rejoice in the prosperity of others, such as their generation of roots of virtue. What is equanimity? It is to be free from anger and attachment in all ways, and for the nature of benefiting others to spontaneously flow and deeply enter. Having cultivated these four immeasurables, then, with the rays of light arisen from the seed syllable in one's own heart, which pervade all directions of space, regard the gurus, buddhas, and bodhisattvas as performing the activity of benefit for other beings by emanating and gathering. Then, likewise, from the rays of light of the seed syllable in one's own heart, excellent divine fragrances and flowers, etc., arise. With the mandala offering as a preliminary, join the palms and bow the head to the lotus feet of the gurus, buddhas, and bodhisattvas, and prostrate with reverence. And with the flowers, incense, lamps, powders, perfumes, garments, victory banners, bells, and pennants, etc., arisen from that very light, offer to them with outer and inner offerings; this is the offering. Then, perform confession of sins, etc. Whatever sins have been committed Through attachment, hatred, and delusion, By body, speech, and also by mind, I confess them all.

And likewise, all actions of giving and so forth, I confess before all the Victorious Ones. This is the confession of sins. Whatever merit of all the Thus-Gone Ones, and also the practice of the path of perfect enlightenment, and the solitary realizers and supreme lamas, I rejoice in all their virtues. This is rejoicing in merit. All the Buddhas who have gone to the three times, the qualities of loving-kindness pervading the sky, the faultless noble assembly and the sacred Dharma, with reverence I go for refuge. This is going for refuge to the Three. Completely pure, relying on the path of the Victorious Ones, difficult to obtain by Brahma, Indra, potentates, etc., here I accumulate the collection of merit, may I generate this Bodhicitta. This is relying on the path of the Victorious Ones, and the words of generating Bodhicitta. Thus, after offering with the seven excellent offerings, then with the words of the lama, meditate on all that is external and internal as emptiness, and in order to make it stable, recite the verse: Om Svabhava Shuddhah Sarva Dharma Svabhava Shuddho 'Ham. (Tibetan: ཨོཾ་སྭ་བྷཱ་བ་ཤུདྡྷཿསརྦ་དྷརྨཱཿསྭབྷཱ་བ་ཤུདྡྷོ྅ཧཾ།, Sanskrit Devanagari: , Sanskrit Romanization: om svabhava shuddhah sarva dharmah svabhava shuddho 'ham, Chinese literal meaning: Om, nature pure, all dharmas, nature pure, I.) After that, visualize the mere appearance of one's own mind, and the unobstructed forms and sounds of earth and trees, in the form of a moon mandala arising from the first letter. On top of that is the seed syllable mentioned earlier. Then the moon and the seed syllable completely transform into the form of a sword radiating light. Then in the center of Brahma, on top of the rabbit-bearer, is the seed syllable mentioned earlier, and the sword completely transforms into Manjushri, whose light is like the autumn moon, holding a collection of light that illuminates the ten directions of the world. The two hands are in the form of a youth. The right hand holds a sword that cuts through all ignorance, and the left hand holds a scripture containing all the methods. Adorned with all ornaments. Wearing red robes. Abiding single-pointedly in meditation. Having a face like a blooming lotus. Having lotus eyes. Adorned with the signs of a great being. Having a collection of hair like an Indranila jewel, with five tufts. On top of an eight-petaled white lotus
