Suffering abides in such a way. Soft and weak, round and long. Gradually hardening, limbs progressively complete. Nourished by milk and butter. Extremely frail, lying on the back. Childhood, youth, and adolescence. Old age again becomes childhood. Greatness is impermanent and extremely moving. There is no power to stay even for a moment. I will surely die, but I do not think about it. Friends, that person is very strange. Not knowing the faults and shortcomings of samsara. Abiding in the four inversions. I will surely die, but I do not think about it. Attached to the world, days and nights pass in vain. People of Jambudvipa die untimely. Even those who are certain will perish. Again and again, one should think, "I will surely die." Think, O fair-faced one. The time when the Sal flowers bloom has come. The autumn season indicated by the clear moon is coming. All beings rejoice, but my life. Will come to an end, and there is no joy at all. Today I will do this, tomorrow I will do that, and then I will do this and that. Not knowing the moving nature of existence, seeking trust in vain. Beings are like singing in the mouth of the crocodile of the Lord of Death. Before the work is finished, they fall into the whirlpool of the water of the world. This will be done tomorrow, this will be done in a moment. This will be done in a short time, when people think like this. Yama, holding a club in his hand, looks askance. His eyes are red and fierce, and he seems to be grinning. All the Yoga treatises and. Many methods are well known. But they say, "Today I will do it, tomorrow I will do it." Even those who are mindful will die. This life is full of harm, like a bubble of water. Driven by the wind, it is impermanent. Between breathing in and out, and waking from sleep. It is very strange to have leisure. Alas, alas, dear friends. Life is short, and there are many things to know. Also, one does not know the measure of life. Like a beginner taking milk from water. Take and abandon according to your own wishes. Alas, alas, dear friends. If you look at the actions of the world. All actions are the cause of meaningless suffering. No matter how you think, it will not help. Practice looking at your own mind. Alas, alas, dear

O yogis! The seven valid cognitions and the four types of grammar, the Abhidharma and the grounds of Yogācāra, the Sutra Pitaka, the Vinaya, and the Abhidharma, all that is written in the treatises, do not generate sorrow over what is said to be "unseen, unheard, unsaid, unwritten," but remain virtuous. The guru's instructions, called the taste of nectar, are enough to calm the mind; why study so many treatises extensively? Everything is a cause for confusing the mind. Since the place of samsara is uncertain, and parents and so on cannot be determined as parents, abandon attachment to relatives and friends. Enemies are also uncertain, so abandon hatred towards enemies. Abandon the natural attachment to being free from illness, having perfect youth, and the five desirable qualities. Abandon gain, respect, fame, lineage, ancestry, and verses. Abandon disciples and the Dharma connection between teacher and student. Alas, alas, friends! Consider the world as a poisonous snake, scorpion, and poison, and having abandoned it, dwell in solitude. Abandon examining the characteristics of women and the characteristics of men, abandon examining medicine and elephants, or astrology. Abandon examining weapons or inventing horse judging techniques, abandon studying and reading bad treatises. When the mind arises with delight in objects, and when various thoughts arise, remember that I will surely die, and counteract them with the remedies that follow. Subdue the many thoughts by counting breaths. Counteract the arising of desire and various thoughts by contemplating the impurity of one's own nature and the bones. Sprinkle the water of loving-kindness on hatred. Counteract ignorance with the path of dependent origination. The instructions on impurity, loving-kindness, and dependent origination should be practiced as they come from the guru's mouth. The song called "Causing Faith to Arise in Samsara" is complete. Composed by the glorious teacher Dipamkara Shrijnana. Translated by the Indian abbot himself and the reviser translator Lotsawa Brtson Sengge at the Vikramaśīla monastery. Later, it was corrected and finalized by the guru himself and the translator Tsultrim Gyalwa. The Song on Definitely Turning Away from Samsara. Dipamkara Shrijnana.
