First, a detailed distinction of the rituals of taking refuge, generating Bodhicitta, and vows. First, a detailed distinction of the rituals of taking refuge, generating Bodhicitta, and vows. In Indian language: Sgāsanāsarvakasādhananāma (Sanskrit: सगासनसर्वकसाधननाम, Romanized Sanskrit: sgāsanāsarvakasādhananāma, Literal meaning: The name of the seat of all practices). In Tibetan: The method of practice called "The Treasure of All Teachings." Homage to glorious Manjushri Vajra! The Buddha's teachings are like nectar, In the boundless ocean, To allow those with treasures to enter, I will speak in order. Have faith in Gautama's teachings, If a son of good lineage comes, First give the three refuges, Then Bodhicitta. This is the ritual of generating Bodhicitta preceded by taking refuge. On an auspicious day, a son of good lineage with faith, with a clean body and clean clothes, in a pleasing place, offers the image of the Tathagata, and in front of it, makes mandalas to the Three Jewels and the Guru. Having made offerings such as flowers as much as possible, first prostrate to the Three Jewels. After offering as much as possible, offer to the wise and compassionate Guru, touching both feet with a bouquet of flowers first. Kneeling or squatting, with palms together, remain and pray three times. The virtuous friend should say: Please also take refuge in the Three Jewels and generate Bodhicitta. Then, the Guru, with a superior intention, looks at the disciple who has entered the path and gives as much as possible. With a promise beforehand, give like this: Venerable one, you should say this: The Buddhas, Bhagavat, etc., residing in the ten directions of the world, and the Bodhisattvas, Mahasattvas, etc., Teacher, please listen to me. I, named so-and-so, whatever I have done with body, speech, and mind, relying on the Buddha and the Bodhisattva parents, and other sentient beings, in this life and other lives, or in the intermediate state, the sinful deeds I have done, or caused others to do, or rejoiced in.

Or rejoice in the actions of others. Gather all of these together, knead them together, and then before the Buddha, Bodhisattvas, and teachers, sincerely confess. When aware and mindful, do not conceal. Do this three times. I, named so-and-so, having confessed sins in this way, from this day forward until reaching the essence of enlightenment, take refuge in the Buddha, the Bhagavan, the great compassionate one, the all-knowing, the all-seeing, the one who has transcended all unbearable fears, the great being with an indestructible body, the supreme body, the best of the two-legged Dharma body. I, named so-and-so, having confessed sins in this way, from this day forward until reaching the essence of enlightenment, take refuge in the supreme Dharma, which is peaceful and free from desire. I, named so-and-so, having confessed sins in this way, from this day forward until reaching the essence of enlightenment, take refuge in the Sangha, the supreme community of irreversible Bodhisattvas. I, named so-and-so, having confessed sins in this way and having taken the three refuges, for the sake of liberating the endless realms of sentient beings, for the sake of delivering them, for the sake of completely saving them from the suffering of samsara, and for the sake of establishing them in the unsurpassed omniscient wisdom. Just as the Bodhisattvas of the past, future, and present have generated the mind of enlightenment and realized Buddhahood, and will realize Buddhahood, just as all the Buddhas see and know with the stainless wisdom and eyes of the Buddhas, and just as the ritual of knowing the nature of all dharmas, I, named so-and-so, before the teacher named so-and-so, and before all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, generate the mind of unsurpassed, perfectly complete enlightenment. Do this three times. Then, if desired, the vows of a layperson can be given. Taking the five precepts preceded by going for refuge to the three is the vow of a layperson. This also corresponds to the previous request.
