When both legs are on the mat, stretched straight down, and that is firmly placed, it is known as the excellent sitting posture. When both feet are about a span above the ground, placed on the mat with a gap in between, that squatting posture is described as the squatting posture itself. The right leg is firmly established in the half-lotus position of a bodhisattva, and the left leg is stretched out with a graceful pose, which is known as the playful sitting posture. Remaining in the vajra posture, one makes the mudra of Vairochana and others. With the lotus posture, one also makes the mudra of the graceful ones and others. Remaining in the bodhisattva posture, one makes the mudra of Vajrasattva and others. Remaining in the hero's posture, one makes the mudra of Vajrakrodha. With the excellent posture, one makes the mudra of Maitreya and others. With the squatting posture, one makes the mudra of messengers and male and female servants. With the playful posture, one makes the mudra of the protectors of the world. May all beings, through whatever virtue arises from this compilation, always turn to the protector with the wisdom of the Buddha. The arrangement of sitting postures, made by the great teacher Buddha Jñānapāda, is complete.
